Vintage Mego 7: Prototype Twiki from Buck Rogers

BIDI BIDI BIDI! This week’s installment of Vintage Mego covers the prototype of Twiki from Buck Rogers. I go into my affection for the Mego Buck Rogers line, dispell some myths and share my collection of Twiki stuff. For more information on the Buck Rogers line, please visit the Mego Museum gallery page: Buck Rogers…

Fun! I never got into these figures when I was a kid, but they are VERY nice.

I don't think the line was ever a failure. The pegs at my local stores like Sears, Zodys, Toys R Us, Hollywood Toys, Akron, Gemco, Sunset Toys, Bert Wheelers Toys, Savon Drugs and other places were always running low on stock and Twiki was the chase. I had one friend in our group that managed to get one via Sears catalog order. Never mind finding him in stores and mind you this was in Hollywood and being a Toy fiend back then calling all the toy stores listed in the Los Angeles yellow Pages that said a lot about this line. In school Buck Rogers was the hit and even my immigrant barely speaking English parents loved the show.
Mego scored with this licensing and the proof was there in the availability in stores, empirically stated.
That said, I love this line and only have a Twiki figure in my collection. Wish they made more aliens or Hawk!

Great video. Loved Twiki when I was little. Wonderful sculpts and articulation on these. Better than Kenner at the time. But the figures were severely hurt by the extreme lack of paint and no accessories. Kind of brittle plastic too. Broke off Buck's thumb trying to put Han's blaster in his hand.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Always loved those little rivets joints. Such a kitchy little figure. Nice video, thanks

great video. I would have loved these as a kid. I never missed an episode of the Tv show. By the late 70's though my parents had stopped buying me toys :-(.

I appreciate the info on the line's sales. I'm always interested in info on the company itself.

I distinctly remember the Twiki figure from childhood. Someone I knew must have had one, because it seems unlikely that I would have seen it at the store. I recall anything Twiki related was popular, at that time.

cool stuff. Twiki is the only one I have in my collection as well. I had the Draconian guard as a kid and loved the look but his chest armor limited arm movement which kind of annoyed me
