Hollywood has to be getting close to the bottom of the barrel

You figure with them coming out with a live action version of Dora the Explorer, they must be edging ever closer to the bottom, don't they?

Not a fan personally but there are far worse properties than that getting reboots and movies. My guess is they are trying to gage if nostalgia for the early 2000s is a thing yet. I would guess, no, it isn't.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Getting close? Battleship and the Emoji movie have already occurred, we're in a "post barrel" society.

I imagine the Budweiser "Whassup" guys will soon have their own trilogy.

Nostalgia waits for no one. Disney recently made a live-action Kim Possible movie for the Disney Channel. This show was on when my 17 year old was a wee lad.

The days of corporations waiting 15 to 20 years to revive an IP are gone. It's less than 10 now.

In our son's lifetimes, there have been three seperate Spider-Man franchises. That's really weird when you think about it.

              ^True!

My son has lived through two distinct periods of live-action Superman and Batman as well.

My dad was a big fan of Tarzan on tv and in the movies There were 15 different actors to play Tarzan during his lifetime (he was born in the 30s and passed in '99). While he had his favorites (Johnny Weismuller among them), he was never fazed by the changes as long as he got Tarzan movies and shows he enjoyed. He would always say the role was bigger than the actor, and as long as they got someone who could play the role well, why should he care if it changed. Tarzan was still Tarzan.

I'm kind of the same way. As long as the product is something I enjoy, I don't care if roles change or franchises reboot, just put out a movie (or tv show) I enjoy and we're all good.

That probably came across as I was decrying everything but I was actually just observing that notion.

I can see someone of your dad's generation being unphased by it because of how important a weekly movie was back then. It's amazing the output that they maintained. I'll see a movie from the forties I've never heard of and you'll discover there 15 more in the series.

I suppose it could be worse. There could be a live action version of Rugrats. I better keep my mouth shut.

Have you seen the trailer for Dora? I found myself kinda digging it, despite myself. So yeah... I'm definitely in Camp Could Imagine Worse...

To be fair, Hollywood was remaking movies in the 70s and 80s from earlier eras and not all of them were gems either. Lots of good original movie ideas left but the studios are only interested in bankable tent pole franchises right now. The future for small movies seems to be streaming.
