The pop culture rewards aren't worth the true price that's going to be paid.

I’m not even convinced of the pop-culture rewards. Thinking of the way Disney has handled Star Wars doesn’t give me high hopes.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

The merger is a nightmare. There was no reason for it. FTC should have killed it. It really should be seen as the demarcation for the end of Hollywood as we knew it.

If the global economy even winks at recession, you can wipe Sony and all lesser players like MGM off the map. Then we'll get a fight between NBCU/CBSPAR/WB as to who acquires who. In the end it's Disney/Apple, Comcast Empire and whatever Netflix and Amazon can do. The problem for the actual working industry is not just the loss of positions and production shrink, it's the devaluation in content. The more disposable it becomes, the more budgets will lower and downscale everyone rates just to keep working.

Yep it's bad for workers in the industry and creates a lull of creativity. Most of the new Marvel and Star Wars content are firmly in the middle of pack. There isn't another Empire Strikes back or Superman TMP but they won't be enough risk taking to make a truly awful film either.
