Love the toys but the packaging leaves you cold?

This is something I've come to understand about myself, I love the Mego Superheroes very much. They're childhood pals and I've spent my adult life compiling and collecting window boxes, solid boxes, Kresge cards and really digging the foreign stuff.

    There's just one thing I don't collect:

    Regular carded WGSH.

I no longer own a single example of these. I've tried on occasion to build a set and at one point I had a pretty nice collection going but it just didn't take. I also don't miss them.

I'd say it was the generic look but that logic makes no sense seeing as I have carded Apes and Star Trek here.

It probably has to do with the frustration I felt with these cards, we mainly had walls of Spider-Man and Hulk in the late 1970s. I'd stare at the back of these things and see all the characters I couldn't find.

There are facebook groups where all people do is talk about the little minutiae about these and while I understand that, it's something I have trouble involving myself in.

Any vintage Mego lines that you like but for one reason or another don't like the packaging?

Most of the cared CAH and Pocket Heroes lines. I love them dearly and the figures are one of my favorites but the packaging just doesn't do it for me. Especially the red cards

Yeah I'm a huge fan of the formats but the red cards are awfully uninspired.

Another vote for the Pocket Heroes. The figures are neat but the packages are as dull as dishwater.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I do however think the white cards and blue jean cards are wonderful.

Secret Wars comes to mind. I'd much rather buy loose figures for 1/3th the price because the package does nothing for me. Individualized cards would have really helped, imagine DD with Frank Miller artwork or Ironman with the Bob Layton images.

For me it's Mego Classic Star Trek

Even as a kid I seen many things I still don't like today including …

Character paintings look too harsh and mean -- artwork style isn't very good too

Captain Kirk character bubble is plastered right on top of the Enterprise picture …. Who approved that ?

Star Trek is written as one word STARTREK ….

Yellow triangle above Kirk's head looks out of place -- Get rid of it and move the Enterprise there !!!

              Great thread

in all fairness to Star Trek, the card art flowed better when they only had five characters. It's all Uhura's fault

Mattel is normally pretty exceptional with this sort of thing but this feels like they were in "MOTU" mode and it doesn't fit. Kenner understood comic characters better with the Super Powers collection.

oh sure, blame the woman. Maybe its the Klingon's fault for not migrating to the Aliens card where he belonged.

I'm more partial to the boxes and if I ever chased packaged examples that's where I'd go.

Mego OMBC. I like the figures well enough, but the cards are awful. It's a good logo, but a more varied card design, perhaps with green foliage, would have boosted shelf-appeal and perhaps sales.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

The CAH cards without hero pictures along with the red Pocket Hero cards. Both are so bland.

I never felt short-changed with the WGSH cards until I saw the glorious Palitoy versions. Even still I have a decent collection of 8" carded heroes. I will also add, when there is a decent amount of them together, the colors makes them seem much more interesting-

Palitoy really knew what they were doing with their card art, their WGSH, POTA and Trek cards looked way better than the Mego cards.

Hey, how about the opposite situation: you love the packaging but not the toys? For me it would be the Mego Western figures, great box art but the figures themselves don't do much for me.
