2018 green shirt Capt Kirk: Dye head, eyebrows, eye paint

I guessed if I were to remove 2018 Captain Kirk's eyebrows, dye his paler head with tan Ritt (as well as his hands), repaint his eyes & eyebrows to look like the classic Mego, he'd look improved. I just finished the customized Kirk that I had envisioned. The new eye paint definitely camouflaged the deeply inset eyes from the latest sculpt's release. The contemporary figure is aligned against a classic Kirk.

I haven't worked on dyeing the new Megos bodies, but I am pleased with the results of the head & hands. The Ritt dye doesn't take on the wrist pins, but I used different dye mixes to get a competent shade of tan/brown on the head & hands. I highlighted parts of the newer tanned face by tracing some acetone along the cheek lines, lightning facial features of the newly dyed face.

I am sharing a few snapshots of my work as it was in progress.

    -Mike

The sculpt is definitely still there, you've definitely shown that. Much improved.

Well Damn, I'm impressed! That's a BIG improvement...you FIXED him!!

P.S. I've already switched my green shirt Kirk onto an original Mego Kirk. I was thinking about throwing the head away, but now I just might try a re-paint. Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words. I'm pleased with how my new Kirk turned out.

BTW, I am not a velcro fan. Although I share a good word of commendation for the specific velcro material choice of the neo Megos, I generally do not like how velcro risks "grabbing" nylon, polyester, & such material when I am manipulating the outfits. The Toy Biz 'Famous Covers' figures' velcro was notorious for grabbing the fabric & making pulls in it. I am always playing with my figures' outfit material, & turning it inside out to study the mechanics, the sewing, the patterns; I like my outfits to stay in good condition, & not risk running with some pesky velcro.
I removed my Green Shirt Kirk's velcro, and followed the classic 70s Mego Kirk Yellow Shirt pattern. I was able to close up most of the outfit's original holes (left from the sewing thread) in the back, I sewed it up halfway along the spine, and I added the classic squared metal snaps. It's a small detail, but it is how I wanted my figure's Green Shirt pattern to look.

It’s amazing what a universe of difference can made with a few micro details. I agree, the snagging nature of Velcro is a perpetual problem. Only perfection will suffice!
