Vintage Mego 3: Prehistoric Animals from Mego One Million BC

Welcome to another installment of Vintage Mego. This week we talk about the Mego One Million BC line and the series of awesome “Prehistoric Animals” that were created for the line. These (mostly dinosaurs) creatures are actually some of the hardest to find items produced by Mego and well, they’re a lot of fun. For…

    Great video !!!

The T-Rex always reminded me of the one from The Last Dinosaur

If I was making them I would have scrapped the hairy rhino idea and went with a triceratops

Always hated sail-back dinosaurs in movies --- even as a kid I knew they were just a Gila monster with a fake sail glued on --- Irwin Allen was notorious for using them in almost everything he did.

BTW, back in the day I never knew the entire One Million BC line existed … Never seen them in the stores

Great vid Brian! These toys really speak to my inner caveman, and I love this line for the spear throwing gimmick.

I did not have these as a kid, and don't remember knowing that they existed. I think I would have had a blast with these and my Trek Mego landing party, with Kirk, McCoy, and Spock dodging spears.
Has the prototype female in the treehouse ever turned up anywhere in anyones collection? I would be interested in seeing that figure.
I post in thy general direction!

I was always disappointed when they were Lizards and Irwin Allen just used the same footage, over and over again.

The prototype Zon showed up in Toronto, i used to own it actually.

And yeah, the only time I ever busted these out was with my Action Jacksons when I'd put up a display in my old office.

Great video. I'm beginning to find your voice very soothing lol.

I love this line, I accessorized all the Cro-Magnons with extra Mego accessories. I've never really sought the $$$$ animals--I thought I might use Aurora dino models instead and some of the Marx safari animals.

I yearn for the treehouse, but the Lost Continent playset is my tolerable substitute.

This is my favorite Mego line of all. I honestly never saw these as a kid, but I would have been ALL over them if I did. One of my favorite toys was my bright red/orange Aurora T-rex who spent many an afternoon chasing FP little people, battling my MEGO Spidey, and reenacting Valley of Gwangi with various cowboy themed figures and Big Jim. MEGO crossed time barriers with the dino hunting cave folk of 1MBC, and gave full reign to the imagination for my adult child mind to display these right alongside the western figures, or Trek, a Kirby Devil Dinosaur, or in a Simonson scene with the FF. Awesome toys. The magnetic foam dart is one of the silliest, but fun play gimmicks ever.

I get that a lot but not from my children or spouse.

It's definitely an inspired concept and a fun bunch of toys, I think the failure is in the packaging, it's so....ruddy. I would have had a huge volcano exploding lava and fire on each of those cards.

I never had them as kid either, but as a POTA collector these were a natural extension… and as mentioned, they are fun and unique in the Mego lineage. Luv the rhino too!

So what ever happened to the [supercool!] prototype tribal lair?… safe in an elite collection or lost and still full of mystery?

I've never heard tell of it surviving. Maybe it is in some former designer's home or maybe it hit the dumpster.

One of the reasons I'm still here at the Museum is that there are a lot of unanswered questions. Some amazing stuff has survived, so who knows.

Is anyone else surprised that the Tribal layer wasn't just the treehouse? I guess the market had been seriously saturated.
