It took me 20 years, but I finally struck it rich as a picker

Last weekend, my wife and daughter wanted to go to an antique mall that also has some clothing boutique. I have never been an antique store shopper because it is always over priced junk, for sale by some old lady. Well, I decide to go with them and check out the shops.
Just like I said, it was mostly over priced junk. Then I enter a room that has a bunch of framed prints, such as George Rodrigue (Blue Dog artist) and other artists. Then I see a print I just liked. They had it labeled as a nautical print called "Sea Captain". It is under glass, but the frame was trashed and the glass was cracked. With a closer look, I notice the whites of the print was actually paint, not a print. The rest looked like a print. I do a quick Ebay search on my phone and I get a few hits, but nothing high dollar that sold. My wife walks in and asks me what I am doing. I tell her I really like this print and I think it maybe a real painting. She tells me that I don't need that, it isn't real, so for once, I listen to her and put it back. That was a Saturday, and that thing stayed in y head for two days. Monday evening, I start watching "Antique Roadshow" and it got me seriously thinking about the painting. I learn the artist is a highly collected artist in California and his originals sell for $1000's.
The shop was closed Monday and Tuesday, so I waited Wednesday morning, run back up there and grab it as soon as the doors open. I tell the shop owner I saw it Saturday and I let my wife talk me out of buying it.
As I was checking out, the shop owner breaks out his magnifying glass and says, "This looks like a painting, not a print." I start to get nervous, thinking he wasn't going to sell it to me. He then ask me if I want him to call the booth owner of the painting and see if she will give me a 10% discount. I decline because she had "Firm" on the price tag. I buy it and head home.
After a few days of research on it, contacting the artist (he is still alive). I learn it is from around 1975. He is famous for painting an old man in his paintings named "Hawk". It is kind of like the Blue Dog, everyone wants one. My painting is of Hawk, but it is actually painted before he started painting Hawk on a regular basis. He said it was during the time he was "designing the spirit of Hawk".
The artist's name id Aldo Luongo.
The value of the painting is $8000-$12,000, if not more.

    I paid $125

That's cool. I'd never look twice at something like that. Will you sell it?

Very cool! This is just the sort of thing I tell my wife when I want to stop at a junk/antique shop. You never know what you'll find....

                  Congrats!
