    Jon Cryer is Lex Luthor

I'm not making this up. The former "Lenny Luthor" of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is really playing Lex Luthor on Supergirl.

The Superman franchise has always been great about casting actors from previous productions in then-current tv shows and movies, going back to Noel Neil reprising her serial role of Lois Lane on TV.

But who would have ever thought they'd homage the much-maligned Superman IV in this way? It doesn't hurt that Cryer had a very successful sitcom for a decade, but still....

I bet Mark (Nuclear Man) Pillow is waiting by his phone...

      Very cool.

I have a great love for Superman IV...it was a strong story and message which still rings true even today. The only thing it lacks is the polished FX of it's predecessors.
The Smallville scene when Clark talks about selling the house, and especially the United Nations scene are just fantastic.

^It has it's heart in the right place, but not it's money. WB really should have stepped in and kept this from falling into Canon's pits of low-budget dreck. There's a great story hidden amongst the phoned-in effects and horrid editing. But it still has Chris Reeve, and Hackman, and Kidder, and Cooper, and...

So we'll have a Lex that is five years younger than the actor that plays his mother?

I've enjoyed the stunt casting the show has done but nope, not this one. I'm not even floating shade at Superman IV here, he's just not "Luthory".

I always loved Superman 4 and Jon Cryer in it.

Supes 4 was the first time I ever seen Cryer in anything …… To this day I always think of him from that movie whenever I see him in anything else.... "hey, i'm breakdancing"

              I would give you that...but then...there's Jesse Eisenberg...the anti-Lex. So horrible...

I find him just as annoying today as he was as Lenny Luthor. Pass.

You'll notice I did not float the words "Worst" around anywhere when I described Crier.

I really like Melissa Benoist, but the direction of that show really puzzles me. The emphasis on her sister and the preachiness of the show really puts me off. I agree with most of what it's saying, but I don't need to be beaten over the head with it on a fantasy TV show based on a comic book where none of that has ever really been a component. I saw a commercial for the next episode, and it was all about Alex...again.

The pic doesn't look bad, and I think Cryer could make for a fun Lex. But I agree that the relative ages of the Luthors is problematic... and that the show's storytelling overall seems rudderless.

I always enjoy Supergirl in the crossover episodes, and think I must have judged the show too harshly. So I tune back in... and it still doesn't work for me.

It's Jon Cryer tho, he played a character older and younger than himself in the SAME film.
