Buy PowerLords or we'll shoot you

I was too old for the Power Lords when they came out but I remember kind of digging their design, they certainly weren't as child friendly as other action figure lines at the time and that appealed to my newly discovered cynicism.

I don't remember the characters in this ad from Toyfair 1984 and go figure, they seem like they're kind of expensive and probably saw a smaller release. Why those toys always the prettiest?

Guy on the left looks very sad

Guy on the right resembles B_tch Stewie

Interesting concept and Revell went all out on these. They really thought they had the next MOTU on their hands. The one problem with that was kids thought the heroes were grotesque.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yeah, Power Lords was on the back of every DC comic for what seemed like YEARS, and they never enticed me to buy them. The gimmick of the main guy changing to an alien was cool, but the fact that you only got a half of each figure turned me off.

I loved the Adam Power figure and its "transforming" action as a kid. Weird series though. Every character was ugly.

So sad the revival by the Four Horsemen failed to gain traction. I really wanted the next wave to happen. THe originals were such wild designs; they really stood out on the toy shelves, especially since they didn't re-use molds like many of the lines of the day. Each figure was so distinct. Add in the Volcan Rock playset, a huge black mountain that could rival anything on Eternia, and it was a really good line. I guess the weirdness was just too much for the 80's.
