    Klaatu barada nikto

I recorded The Day the Earth Stood still during a free movie channel weekend.
I had never seen it, nd though I might give it a try.

I didn't watch it and I forgot about recording it.

Months past and I pulled out the remnants of my Kenner Star Wars collection while watching The Force Awakens. (The first time I have seen it since its theatrical run).

I couldn't remember where 2 figures fit in the movies or what their names were.
The 72 back card revealed they were both Klaatu -I had to look him up. 2 versions of the same guy on Jabba's Barge from RotJ.

But that is not the character who came up first.

As sci fi fans -you probably already knew it was a character from The Day the Earth Stood Still.

I thought "I should watch that some time."

A few days after watching Force Awakens, I scrolled through my DVR recordings to see what I had. I was quite surprised to find The Day the Earth Stood Still.

It does move slower than a modern day film and has far less Action and Flare. However, I was impressed by the story, dialogue, acting, filming, sets, and even the special effects. I would give it a 10 compared to other movies of its era. It should not be compared to modern day movies. It is not for today's audiences, but it is still enjoyable and I would recommend it to a sci fi fan or fan of classic cinema.

While watching, I read the Wikipedia article and found out there is a 2008 remake with Keanu Reeves. Is is bad, or really bad?

I honestly caught the reference in ROTJ at twelve years old.

Do not bother with the Reeves version.

I love the original. I think The Thing from Another World and the original TDTESS are seminal science-fiction films, from polar perspectives. I personally do not recommend the remake.

          I don't mind "Day--Still" but I don't love it.

It seems like a padded episode of a lost Twilight Zone episode.

It’s pretty good. But I much prefer Forbidden Planet.

The remake sucks, mostly because of Will Smith’s annoying kid, Jaden Smith. Keanu Reeves was actually not too bad, he played it stone face, like a non-human, lol.

BTW, Keanu Reeves rules as John Wick.

These are my two favorite science fiction movies!! The remake was alright, I didn't care for Jaden Smith at all!

Considering it took you 67 years (well, less, depending on your age) to watch the original, I believe you...

I did not see the movie until I was in high school, but once I saw it I knew exactly where Lucas got the names from. it was just a nod to a classic SciFi film

The Day the Earth Stood Still, is a great classic movie, with the best musical tones, besides Aunt Bea was in it,
so that alone is worth seeing, especially the part where she thought Gort needed to be dusted and polished.

I'm also a fan of the classic War of the World's (Gene Barry) I did though enjoy the remake with Tom Cruise.
