    The Deal Breaker

Was there ever a toy you wanted to buy, but something about it was a deal breaker (price doesn't count ) that you couldn't get past?

For me, it was the Corgi 647 Buck Rogers Starfighter.

I love all things Corgi, but how could they have ruined the beautiful design of Buck's Starfighter by adding that flat/safety piece at the front of the ship? Looks like a goddamn mandoline.

they could have just packed in some safety goggles. without that flat bit it was pretty darn stabby.

That could be removed real easy...a Dremel tool and some white paint and viola!

There is no way they could have produced a show accurate model of that ship for kids.

And these are what we call the Forward Facing Pointy Bits... The Toy / Eyepatch Industrial Complex gave this toy a 9 rating before the safety blade was brought in by the 3d Movie Association.

Yeah, same here. Although I fully understood why they had to add that crossbar part, it still always annoyed me nevertheless.

I wanted to buy Mego's Elastic Heroes figures because I loved the characters, but even at age 4, the thought of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and the Hulk stretching was so out of character, I just couldn't do it. Had I known they made Plastic Man, I'd been all over him!

The larger Corgi Batcopter is even nicer, with working winch.

Did the Mego version have soft rubber or hard plastic points?

What gets me is that the original safety issue regarded Firing Missiles back in '78 with a Mattel Battlestar Galactica toy (which unfortunately led to a death). The Corgi 647 came out in '80 and still had Firing Missiles, but the "Forward Facing Pointy Bits" paid the price.

The cones on the mego version aren't sharp and certainly not made of metal. Also they fall off pretty easy.
