Here it is gang, my last Mego custom of 2018, Morbius, the Living Vampire. Morbius was more work than it probably appears. The head cast from Austin was nice, but the original sculpt was clearly based on a more modern look. His forehead had these weird bumps that reminded me of a STNG Klingon, lol, so I carved and sanded them away as well as some other light sanding here and there. It's really all I felt I needed to do to make it look more vintage. I love the suit that Leitner makes. He normally makes it in black, but I asked him to make it in a navy blue that is close to the blue in Mego Spidey's costume. When I got it, the collar was too high for my liking. This also looked too much like a modern design of the character, so I shortened it. I decided to give him glow in the dark monster hands, because I felt like that very well could have been something Mego would have done (Mad Monster leftovers?). In the end, I am extremely happy with him.
Love how he looks with Spidey, with the near matching costume colors.
How is your friendly neighborhood wall crawler going to get out of this one!?!?
I don't care what anyone says, Spidey has THEE best rogues gallery!
Mego totally should have done a supernatural wave!
And here is a look at my entire 2018 custom Mego Marvel lineup. I will be taking a break from Mego customs for a bit, as I start a new project next month, but I do have a good size list of more Marvel characters I want to make and hope to get back to it within' the next few months.
Big, big thanks to the following for their artistry, products and help. They were all integral to my goal of making my customs look like they leaped out of the '70s and '80's.
Brian Leitner
Austin Hough (Reproheads)
Paul Wasson (Lasermego)
Dr. Mego
Anthony Durso (Toyroom)
Happy customizing in 2019 everyone!!!
