I love Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The Year Without a Santa Claus. Night before Christmas; the Fristy cartoons.

The only one I have issues with is Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Too many plot holes.

"Emmet Otter" for sure. Rudolph, Frosty and Charlie Brown, too.

Besides "Emmett Otter," I love all things Muppet, so I add Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, John Denver & The Muppets: A Christmas Together (good special, even better album), The Muppet Family Christmas, and The Christmas Toy.

The Chuck Jones A Christmas Carol is excellent. I'm a fan of versions of Babes in Toyland too, and I have a soft spot for the 1980s version with Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves (flaws and all).

And we've watched Charlie Brown every year along with the movies It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and The Bishop's Wife.

Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.

It's not so much a special, but I always watch the "Batman Returns" movie.

                      Christmas Specials I like:

                      "Nestor, the Long Eared Donkey"
                      "Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer"
"The Year Without a Santa Claus"
                      "A Charlie Brown Christmas"
"Frosty the Snowman" (but *not* "Frosty Returns"-That special is just painful to watch, in large part due to John Goodman and his "singing")

Movies that I like that are set in the Christmas season, or have Christmas as part of their storyline:

                      "A Christmas Story"
                      "Will Penny"
                      "Gremlins"
                      "A Christmas Carol"
                      "Home Alone"

^^I love the Will Penny and Gremlins inclusions. I haven't seen it in so long that I had forgotten Will Penny had a Christmas took place around Christmas, but it's a great one to remember. My favorite "Surprise Christmas" film is the Val Lewton Curse of the Cat People, with a beautiful scene set at Christmas.

Santa Claus is Comin' To Town may be Rankin/Bass' crowning achievement. The songs, characters, everything just flows great.

I'll throw in a shout out for Mr. Bean's Christmas. It's so very British, somewhat quiet thanks to the lack of dialogue, and just a rousing good holiday chuckle.

Was Sombertown supposed to be based on 1800's Prussia ?

I don't think I'd ever even heard of Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas.
