    I know he had been ill, but this is sad. Only 57 years old.

    Wow...that's one I didn't see coming. Ren and Stimpy begat Spongebob, but Squarepants is more responsible original cable cartoon programming than almost any other show. What a legacy.

    Sad news, for sure. I really love Spongebob. Itís the one show we still watch, even as my kids have hit their teens.

    Butch Hartman posted a tribute to him on YouTube. Had no idea he was asked to be a writer on Spongebob.
