Casablanca, with Raiders of the Lost Ark a very close second.

I'm not sure I have a particular favorite, but I have to rank King Kong (1933) as being up there.

The stop motion photography was very good for that time period, I mean actually seeing King Kong's
fur moving in some scenes was interesting, the island dinosaurs stop motion action, the face close ups
and crashing thru the native village chomping and stomping on natives, some of the New York city scenes
and of course the very beautiful Fay Ray, who was actually a brunette.

I've narrowed it down to a top 5 before, but I don't know that I can pick just one. The five who usually make up my top 5 in no particular order-

                    Casablanca
                    Citizen Kane
                    Raiders of the Lost Ark
                    Star Wars
Lord of the Rings (all 3 are really 1 giant movie)

Maltese Falcon, Adventures of Robin Hood (with Errol Flynn) and Flash Gordon have also made it into the top 5 from time to time.

The one of those I have seen most recently, so would likely be the top pick if I had to choose just one, is Casablanca.

MRP mentioned some of my faves. It's really hard for me to pick a favorite because there are too many variables. Best story? Best visuals? Best music? Best movie to make me feel nostalgic? Best movie to make me feel good?

Casablanca is just a great movie. When a movie can pull off those subtle emotional moments like that one does. Just a great, great movie.

I guess I don't know enough to appreciate the technical aspects of Citizen Kane. I've seen it three or so times. Love the beginning and ending but it drags to me in the middle.

Love Hammer's Sci-fi, Pirates and Horror... Love Harryhausen... Love Capra's Mr Smith goes to Washington and It's a Wonderful Life. First two Chris Reeve Supermans... Raiders of the Lost Ark... Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep, I can watch those anytime... brilliant dialogue... SW original trilogy, Indianna Jones original trilogy... Alien, Close Encounters, Jaws...

Funny thing, after the holidays are over, I go on a James Bond kick for a couple of weeks, kind of a palette cleanser.

I was going to say the same to you. Angel Heart was a fave for a long time. It also lead me to Barfly which ignited a pretty lengthy obsession with Bukowski.

too many to choose from, but I guess Empire Strikes Back. really the whole original SW trilogy, LOTR trilogy, and Raiders of the Lost Arc are my all time faves. but I also have favorites from different genres

westerns - Outlaw Josey Whales, I think this is the greatest western film ever made
                            war - Saving Private Ryan
Bond - For your Eyes Only. maybe because it is really the first Bond film I remember watching as a kid, but I just really like this one
comedy - Monty Python and the Holy Grail, just a classic comedy
