I got a "blackmail" spam email with my museum password

Not sure where to post this...
I got a spam email with my museum password in the subject, which was the only reason I opened it.
It said, among other things, that I had visited "the porn site" and used that password (the first of many lies: I may have visited a few sites in my day but I never had an account with any of them) which they traced back to my email address. They also claimed they had "hijacked my computer and accessed my webcam" to record me, ahem... you know... (another lie: I put black tape over my laptop camera the day I got it) and they would send a copy of this "evidence" to every one of my facebook contacts (zero: I'm not on fb) unless I sent them $7000 in bitcoin. So it's obviously a scam but:
The only reason I'm mentioning this here is because the password they stole is my mego museum password which I don't use anywhere else.
I notice that for some time I get a warning about the museum login not being secure. I thought nothing of that warning until this happened.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this where their museum password/email address has been compromised?
To be clear, I'm not accusing anyone here of wrongdoing, just trying to figure this out.

Some of my non museum friends have gotten these. They think it's somebody getting access to older email accounts they mentioned the exact same threats.

Me too, but the password was from an old gaming website. Maybe 14 years old.

Ha, ha, I have green painters tape on this one since the day I got it home. A few years back, a girl that I worked with had her's legit hacked and that was warning enough for me.

Been a lot of this kind of stuff going on lately. They got me here, on FB, and YouTube about a month or so ago.

I read it traces back to a LinkedIn breach. I've gotten a bunch of similar emails. Thankfully I regularly change my passwords.

I'm curious if you can change your password here in the museum? Not saying the museum is not a safe site, but
what C.H.O.A.M. said sort of raises a red flag. Maybe changing your password every once in a while might be a
                  wise idea?

I keep getting spam emails from Robmoz who used to be a member here. I even sold him a custom or two. The list of other recipients reads like a customizers rolecall here.

I got the same "blackmail" spam email weeks ago...

Our IT manager told me that years ago a group of hackers stole the Linkedin and other sites databases of emails associated with passwords.
Recently somebody sold these old databases and started blackmailing people with this porn type scam...
It's hard to determine which site was hacked if you use the same password for every site you are registered in...

My suggestion is to change all the passwords on any site you are registered in.

The fact they use a real password you may have used or that you still use make the scam very credible...but don't worry they have not any video or picture of you

yeah, that's what made me think/post here. the spammer had my museum password.
the "connection not secure" warning here made me wonder if that's where they got my email.

I only use that password here.
and I know they have no video of me (see my "black tape" reference)

This site will tell you if an email you use for a site login was involved in a hack:
Have I Been Pwned allows you to search across multiple data breaches to see if your email address or phone number has been compromised.
