Official Planet of the Apes Prison Wagon

Like clockwork, just as my birthday rolls around, an excuse to do something terribly irresponsible with my money comes with it. This year it was this, one of my "top five" rack toy and Planet of the apes wants.

The reason you ask? Well, let me lay it out for you, first off, it's a Planet of the Apes toy and I've been smitten with the apes since I first saw the cartoon as a kid. Second, it's a rack toy by Azrak Hamway and includes some wonderfully little touchs.

First of all, Dr. Zaius is driving the wagon in his beautiful blue suit. Not sure why AHI always dresses Zaius in blue but they do and I love it.

I have a tremendous weakness for Apes toys that feature the Astronauts, always have. They never look like Heston and they're always in some sort of Space suit, it's wonderful.

Cornelius is riding shotgun, just like he never did. How can you not love this?

We have a PodCast! It's fun, please listen.

I love it. Almost looks like the Apes have captured a Mummy, which may be even cooler, if that's possible.

Also, I really love the marker illustration on the package.

That thing looks like it would come apart if a child sneezed in its direction. Absolutely glorious. I dig the ape glyph writing on the packaging too. Going the extra mile for in universe authenticity, yeah!

I've been studying Cornelius' face. He's got a plan. This is just a ruse to get past the gorilla guards, at which point he's going to bust the astronaut free. I think even Zaius may be in on it. This is not the scenario it appears to be.

This has made me seriously consider making a custom 1/18 scale version for the Super 7 figures.

Being a Libra myself my gift to me was only a CAH Superman. Nice pick up, like I said in the other thread if I had the Apes itch I'd be all over this. AHI made some fun pieces no doubt about it.

I like it a lot. AHI had some of the neatest little toys...I even thought that when we were kids. There was always a lot of play value in their toys, even if they didn’t last or hold up for a long time.

                      That is a nice wagon.

An astronaut with a spacesuit in a cage is one of the best toy ideas in the world.

                      Plus, I like cages.

It goes back to the PotA Mego figure cage that I enjoyed a lot.

And even from liking toys like a Matchbox size safari truck, that came with a caged animal.

                      Great stuff.

Wish I still had mine. I remember always trying to find a way to get the astronaut out of the jail.

Racktoy goodness here! I love the movement of the art. I can see kids getting excited right away and the wagon is off! Playtime fun! I don't ever remember seeing one of these on the shelves but I was a weird kid I hated toys that broke easily. In my house the rule was if it broke out it goes ASAP.
