Target's new strategy is paying off big time

I can say that the Mego releases got me to go into a Target store for the first time in a while. And I bought a few other things while I was there.

Target is getting a boost by taking shoppers from competitors that have collapsed over the past several months, including Bon-Ton and Toys 'R' Us.

It has expanded its toy and kids' clothes offerings to capture former Toys and Babies 'R' Us customers. A top executive on the call noted the "unique market share opportunity" the closures created for Target.

I think its entirely because of the new Mego figures!

Smart move that probably extended their hold on the market for a good long while. All these companies collapse eventually (K-Mart, TRU) but they saw an opening and threaded the needle to score that TD. Major props to them for snatching up Mego and NECA. I already did most of my toy shopping for my daughter at Target as it was. Now I have even more reason to rummage through that section.

That is good that Mego is doing well at Target.

If Target is expanding their toy section to have it really big, that will be something to see.

Interesting, considering a few Targets have closed down in my area of the past few years.

Makes allot of sense. Target was keen to pick up traditional lines normally found at a TRU store. So now with Mego back and Neca realigned with Target, that is surely giving them allot of new foot traffic just for those merchandise lines alone. Target is becoming THE new toy store for collectibles. I hope they consider extending their relationship with Mego after Christmas. I realize they probably can't be completely exclusive, but they can still carry some characters that would be exclusive to their stores.

The exclusive deal with Target is a double edged sword, to some degree, I’m sure. I bet Mego will continue to sell at Target, but the company will also be happy when they have full control over what is produced. In saying that, it’s quite the score to make a retail deal with Target to reintroduce the Mego brand.

I like Target, because when you find something on SALE.
It's really on sale. It was, and is $35 everywhere.
And it's on sale for $20, BAM! I saved $15 and got something I wanted.
                Its a good store.

                  Congratulations on the sale score!

I know what you mean about store sales that aren't sales. I've seen those sale stickers that are literally $0.01 off of the regular price.

I love finding stuff on sale. I recently picked up a $15 Lego Star Wars set for $3.79 on clearance at Walgreen's!
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

Agreed! Toys R' Us was terrible about marking stuff down. It would have to be rotting on the shelves before they would ever consider having a decent sale on something.
