Mint Off Card: Lex Luthor Review

Presenting “MegoMuseum Mint Off Card”, we’re going to “decard” the latest “ReMego” figures and let you see what’s inside.

For our latest show, we're opening up a "Challenge of the Super Friends" Lex Luthor by Figures Toy Company.

"Challenge of the Super Friends" was a 1978 ABC Television series that turned a lot of 70s kids into lifelong fans of Superheroes and action figures.

That was cool! He looks great. I like these Mint Off Cards. One question, what is Cap doing on the Super Friends shelf?

I'm finding I like the LOD figures more than the SF, design-wise. Lex is a pretty good-looking figure.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

That was great! Makes me want to open mine all up and display them (one day soon, I hope).

My FTC Lex experience wasn't so grand - I just don't care for the shorty sleeves as they were too short to even tuck into the molded gloves.
And one of his straps was hanging by a thread, so there were definitely some qc issues.
I ended up sending him back to FTC and getting the Mattel version - though now I wish I had kept the FTC version too so I could swap bodies.
That Mattel body is a little wobbly.
I do like the Mattel costume colors, which are a bit brighter.
FTC's is more like the muted coloring of the cartoon, and I like that too.
But I agree - it's such a grand and iconic Lex costume.

And I love Grodd! I have him too! Such a fun figure!

Sorry to hear your journey was different than mine. On the card, I had some worry about Lex but it took me less than a minute to finess him into better shape.

I liked the Mattel one a lot as well but I'm a sucker for the Superfriends designs which are darker and more muted like you mentioned.

PS Grodd is great. So fun.

                    Nah, don't be sorry!
He was actually my first shorty sleeves / molded gloves figure, so I was not really sure what to expect.
I have to wonder, too, if some of the figures have slightly longer sleeves and maybe mine were a tad bit too short - could just be a production thing.
And I liked his facial expression! As you said, he looks sinister and a little mad!
I also purchased mine as a factory bagged figure vs. a carded figure - not sure if that makes any difference.
I lucked into getting the Mattel figures of Superman and Lex the same weekend as the FTC one, so I just opted to send the FTC one back as I liked the Mattel costuming better.
The Mattel body on the other hand... The Superman looks great, stands great, is super heroic... the Lex just seems odd.
Like I said, I may try to swap to a Mego body one of these days.
I'm not a freak about consistency, though. I just wanted a Lex in that classic costume to put with my Superman characters.

By the way, I subscribed and am enjoying your videos!
I love what you say at the end - "Buy what you like!"
In the end, we all like different things and even the perfect figure wouldn't make everyone happy.
Best to just get what you do enjoy and let others enjoy what they enjoy...

Thank you, that was an off the cuff remark i made in the first video and I got a lot of positive feedback about it, so it stuck.

In the end, we vote with our dollar, I look at a rack of figures and think "I want that one" and that's it.

I like it as the "sign off" for the videos.
It's a good, positive way to end them.

Plus "Good night and good luck" was already taken.

Another great video! Great work. I too like that line at the end - "Buy what you like." That's a more affordable philosophy these days.

Thanks, i think "collect 'em all" is somewhat impossible these days.
