Some of these licenses are head-scratchers, that's for sure. But if that's what Target wants, it seems like a small price to pay to have Mego back in business and available for sale at retail. And to be fair, Mego is the same company that gave us action figures of TV shows like The Waltons and Love Boat back in the day, so it's not really out of character for them.

It's not like Target demanded figures from "A Man Called Sloan" or "When Things Were Rotten." Some of the licenses may seem odd for an action figure line, but Cheers is one of the most successful and well known TV shows of all time. As I've pointed out, every single license that's been confirmed has a strong fanbase, longevity or both. If the blurry pic promoting what's to be revealed at SDCC shows what I think it shows, Fonzie is one of the best known fictional characters on the planet. Classic monsters (if that's Drac) are something everyone knows, and Universal is still trying to revive the franchise. Not sure who else is there. but the point is, while some of these might not be the top tier properties of today, they are all recognizable to just about anyone, even if you weren't a fan (never saw an episode of Cheers, but I'd still recognize the characters easily). Yes, I do hope things like the DC and Marvel licenses do wind up back with them eventually (no wish for bad things upon FTC, but they are not doing a great job with the DC license right now), but this is a start with pop culture properties Joe Average is going to know off the top of his head.Comment
