Chef Boy-Ar-Dee throwback recipe...this stuff is GOOD.

Found this at my local Marc's yesterday...

    ChefThrowback20180220.jpg

THIS is the stuff you remember eating as a kid. The sauce, pasta and filling are all so much better than the current stuff. I hope they keep it around,

but it still begs the question...WHY did they ever change it in the first place?

Oh, man, did I hate that Lasagne one as a kid.

I really never noticed a change in the taste from then, although I don't eat it much either.

I will be looking for the beef ravioli. that was always the special treat growing up haha. Of course we used the giant institutional sized can.

Yep, the beef ravioli was the best. I still love it. It's the only thing like that that I actually still eat.

When I was a kid, I thought he was the chef boy, and his name was Ar Dee.

I used to love the Ravioli and Beefaroni, when I was a kid. It was a real treat.

However, oddly, it was one of the few things that I was able to handle last year when I had chemo. So, right now, the idea of eating it isn’t appetizing. Hopefully, that will change and I’ll try it, again. In saying that, before last summer, I really hadn’t eaten any of it in years.

When I ate it last, I couldn’t tell that the recipe had changed. So, I am interested in what it used to taste like. Maybe my stomach (and mind) will be willing to give it a try before the throwback recipes disappear.

^Yeah, I never knew the recipe changed either. i know some of their microwave versions had different sauce, but that's about it.

Yeah, it tasted just the same to me, but maybe the recipe changed gradually over time and we never noticed it.

Not to hijack the thread, but it reminds me of the meatloaf TV dinner I remember growing up in the tin foil tray. It had a tomato-based sauce and I just loved it. All I see now are meat loafs with some sort of gravy. Just not the same.

I bought some more this weekend, along with a can of the regular stuff. I'm going to take some side by side comparison pics.

It's truly unreal how much tastier the throwback recipe is.

I shudder to think how frequently we had the ravioli. I mean, it was like every day. If I ate it now, my body would likely reject it.

Man oh man.... I forgot about the tater tots. That takes me back just like the Megos do.
