I guess this was the last of the Greats of the golden era?
I grew up with Asimov, Heinlein, Bradbury, Clark, etc, they were trusted friends who rarely disappointed. I was reading them at the age of twelve, and they taught me more than any school book ever did. When I met a new English teacher, he often said "are you repeating this year?". "No." "How come you know all this?" My stock answer was always a list of these men. I learned English so I could read their books.
Good solid SF, before the age of "bigger and better". I still have full shelves of their work.
Feels odd not to have them around, felt the same when Christopher Lee died.

I noticed Mark Evanier shared a neat story about Harlan Ellison at Comic-Con in 1981 that involves Julius Schwartz and a Batman story that Ellison (eventually) wrote. Has a pretty cool quote from Ray Bradbury about Ellison, too (or at least its attributed to Bradbury).
