Imperial Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Despite the popularity of Star Wars, the Close Encounters license was only lightly picked up by toy manufacturers. Imperial produced the only thing that can be considered an "action figure" in this pleasant looking bendy.

I can't speak for everybody but these didn't sell, at all, where i lived. I stared at this display box at my local "Dominion Playworld" until the early 1980s, where it sat, next to the army of unsold Mego Mr. Mxyzptlk dolls.

I'm not surprised it didn't sell. It looks like an 80 year-old drunken streaker stopping to wave at the people in the stands.

I'll admit to owning one of these, I picked it up at a K-mart for 99 cents while we were on a family camping trip in Maine back in 1979 or 80. I almost immediately regretted buying it. I ended up tossing it up onto the roof of our house, where it remained for the next couple years.

My brother had a brown eyed one and blue eyed one. They were his unbeatable tag team champions as kids because they had super strength.
        I still have mine too.

I love these guys. Never had one. It's in my saved searches on eBay, but I can never find one in good condition for a price I'm willing to pay. For me, these are a great representative of that nostalgic time when knock off LPs featured music from both Star Wars and Close Encounters. Everybody was space crazy.

Actually got mine at the local tiny grocery store in Toluca Ill on its little rack toy section.

I remember seeing those regularly in stores as a kid. Never did pick one up.

I too remember seeing these on racks, forever. It seems like they were at the checkouts at some point.

It kinda looks like it's made of Silly Putty. I used to constantly make figures out of my Silly Putty, so I like it!

Would make a great pal for Gumby and Pokey to travel the galaxy with.

Saw the movie in the theater when it came out; meh.

After seeing this creepy pic, I must have that toy.

I had no idea they even existed as a kid. I have no memories of ever seeing them in stores.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

                            I forgot about that.
I had an album with music like that. Also included 2001 if I remember correctly.
