Changing a TV show's title for syndication.

First time I ever noticed this was retitling old episodes of Happy Days to Happy Days Again.

Also remember CHiPs becoming CHiPs Patrol and Emergency! becoming Emergency 51

    I read Dragnet (1951 B&W series) becoming Badge 714

    Anybody remember any others ?

I think Gunsmoke might have had an alternate title back in the day.

I'd occasionally run into an "Andy of Mayberry" as a kid and all episodes of "the Sixth Sense" magically became freaking "Night Gallery" episodes.

It was once common (possibly universal) to retitle a TV show if it ran in syndication parallel to its first-run appearance. (This may have been mandated by contract.) This usually involved taking some of the words away from the title (or adding …

I had no idea "Sgt. Bilko" isn't the show's real name!

"Black Sheep Squadron" was "Baa Baa Black Sheep" when it originally aired.

To me that's so weird. I never recall running into The Andy Griffith Show as "Andy of Mayberry", but I have read about it online and in books.

I do recall the "Happy Days Again" thing. Maybe it's just Paramount?

Actually, Emergency was Emergency One. It was Emergency One until the series ended it’s network run.

Bonanza was briefly syndicated as Ponderosa.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Not just Paramount because a Emergency and Dragnet were Universal. I think CHiPs was MGM. I’m not sure about the other series mentioned.

Oh, I was just joking, but that's good to know.

Was Star Trek ever called anything else?

I think the phenomenon largely happens to show that were still on TV when they broke into syndication.

Star Trek syndication occurred after it's cancellation, which was kind of a miracle as it only had 72 shows.

                        YES !!!

I had forgot about most of the ones mentioned.

Didn't a few shows tack on ".... and Friends" for syndication ?

                            From wikipedia:

It is common for long-running series to have early seasons syndicated while the series itself is still in first-run network production. In order to differentiate between new and rebroadcast content, until the 1980s it was not uncommon for series to be syndicated under a different title than that used in their original broadcast run. Examples include Bonanza (which was syndicated as Ponderosa), Gunsmoke (as Marshall Dillon, a title still used to differentiate reruns from the early, half-hour and black-and-white episodes of the show from the later one-hour color episodes), Emergency! (as Emergency One), Ironside (as The Raymond Burr Show), Hawaii Five-O (as McGarrett), M*A*S*H (as M*A*S*H 4077th), Marcus Welby, M.D. (as Robert Young, Family Doctor), CHiPs (as CHiPs Patrol), and Happy Days (as Happy Days Again.
