    More adventures in 3d printing

Well it took 5 tries but I was finall able to pint a S.H.I..L.D. logo. Betwen a filament jam that lead to other issues and taking major part of the printer things finally worked. The lettering didn't come out too clear but maybe I just need to tweak some settings.

Also tried a little something for Kirk. The only issue wih things like this are they need support that makes that side unsmooth. Haven't figured out if there is anyhing I can do about that.

I often cut guns in half and print a right and left side and then glue them together. That way I don't need any supports.

I LIKE that Phaser Rifle! I have a Custom "Where No Man Has Gone Before" Kirk that would look good carrying that!

I did that with the full size Uhura earpiece but this is so small and the barrel thin I don't know. Guess it's worth a try though.

Yeah, I sometimes make cylinders a little bigger to have them print better.

I read that and wanted to hit the "lke" button, then remembered this isn't Facebook.

This isn't a file I made but found online, don't think I can make any changes

                I will second Paul's recommendations.

You should be able to do both those things in most 3d design packages. What software are you using?

The slicer is what came with the printer. I have a XYZ Da Vinci jr. Pro. and the slicer it came with is XYZware, I've alao used Cura for a few files that didn't work in the other. For the small things I've tried to make I've only been using Tinkercad.

Great! I love Tinkercad... simple but deceptively powerful. Here's how you can do all that in Tinkercad:

                    1. Go to Import and bring in your 3d model of the phaser rifle.

                    step1.jpg

                    2. Use the Cylinder tool to draw new cylinders over top of your model.

                    step2.jpg

                    3. Merge those cylinders onto your original model.
Use the box tool to create 2 "hole" boxes over each half of the rifle.

                    step3.jpg

                    4. Select all and copy it into two sets of rifle/boxes.

                    step4.jpg

                    5. You will only need one "hole" box on each side. Delete the other side and merge.

                    step5.jpg

                      6. Repeat until you have a left half and right half of the rifle.

                      step6.jpg

                      7. Rotate so they both lay flat.

                      step7.jpg

                      Then download and print!
