so sorry to hear. making the decision to put my dog to sleep was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I hope it does not come to that for youComment

Quick update, Curly got meds to clear out his excess fluids and that has helped him breath better and be more active.
The bad news is he has liver and heart issues which at his age can't be fixed.
He is the family pet and he's not ready to cross over the rainbow bridge. I plan on keeping him until he can't enjoy life and knows it's his time and of course give him a special last day and meal.
It's been a tough week but the decision to put him down should be weight out by quality of life left and not be rushed because of the inevitable.Comment

It sounds like you're doing the right thing. You'll continue to give him a good life. You'll know when it's time...hopefully, that's a ways off.

It wasn't an easy decision but today he left this world. The medicine I give him let him live a couple more weeks and I got to cross off a bucket list I had for his last week. We got to go to all his favorite spots and he got a steak dinner the night before. He even made a half mile walk to his favorite park on Sunday somehow without him being tired.
The vet said he was ready to go, and he didn't suffer much outside of a couple days here and there. It's fitting it's a rainy day here on the day he's gone. IMG_20180510_154718393.jpg

I'm heartbroken for you. It's so sad, and our little friends leave a profound hole when they go. I'm glad you shared your story with us though, and that we got to see pictures of your buddy. Sounds like you gave him a good, good life.Comment

You did all that you could for your family member. It's obvious that you loved him and gave him a great life with the best of care.
My condolences.
