Like many in Hollywood, Mack sought spiritual guidance outside the mainstream. But 12 years after checking out a women's empowerment seminar, she stands accused of recruiting "slaves" and branding women with a hot cauterizing pen. Through interviews with close friends and ex-members of the Nxivm cult, THR reveals how a charismatic fan favorite allegedly morphed into the leader's No. 2 and explores the persistent allure and pernicious effect of cults on entertainment.
The actor known for her role in Smallville was one of the lead recruiters for the cult. Federal prosecutors had asked for leniency on Mack's behalf, for her cooperation with the case.
^And apparently married at the "behest" of the scumbag behind all of this. You just know someone is going to make a movie out of this some day. You can't make this stuff up.

Between the two documentary series (The Vow on HBO - Season 2 starts later this year, Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult on Starz), they pretty much covers the whole tale. You get to see Mack go from wide-eyed innocent meeting Raniere for the first time to becoming the Squeaky Fromme to his Charles Manson. Creepy stuff, and they really go deep into the DOS/branding stuff in Seduced.
Mack was looking at 16-17.5 years, did three years under house arrest, turned in a bunch of physical evidence against Raniere, and got a reduced charge of three years in prison as a result. She got off light - she should've gotten at least 10 years IMHO, but I'll bet my Megos she's gonna get nailed on civil lawsuits from some of the women she manipulated into getting branded, so her legal woes aren't over yet.
Raniere's doing 120 years for all of this, just so's ya know.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."
