Billy Mitchell loses Donkey Kong title

I honestly don't care who is the champion of a nearly 40 year old game but this guy always struck me as a walking ego.

Same here, I don't game much but I did around the early 80s.

I actually had that Life Magazine that showed all those guys and I sincerely remember thinking Billy Mitchell looked like a jerk back then too. Never thought I'd see a follow up...

I have seen "Chasing Ghost" and "King of Kong" and in both docs Mitchell comes across as a jerk and left me feeling like he is a greasy dude. He may not be that in real life as that could have been the editorial position of either film or the image he himself chooses to put forth, but either way, he came across as genuinely greasy.

Kind of weird he kept quiet while they were investigating this.

What happened to the innocent nostalgic memories of those awesome 70s/80s games?

I want to remember those days of yesteryear...the blast I had playing at the arcade...not this egotistical dude.

You know, when the film first came out Mitchell did go on record saying the editing framed him as the villain. I found that pretty plausible, he comes across as kind of a humourless person so it would be easy. Also, the film would look better with a "bad guy".

However, he started appearing on some late night radio show where the host stroked his ego a lot and got him talking, while i did find it funny, it made me realize the film captured him pretty well.

After looking at that guy's pic in the link, Im suddenly wondering if he was the basis for Dinklage's character in the movie "Pixels"....lol....

It was actually the South Park episode More Crap that inspired me to watch King of Kong.

Dinklage was definitely based on him. No question. I always say Billy Mitchell is one of the greatest movie villaains I've ever seen and he's not fictional. Wonder if we'll get a sequel.

I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it sounds as if he is one of those guys that only has his ego and he will do what he can to keep his warped sense of self intact.

And as for Dinklage's character in "Pixels", I wondered the same thing when I caught it on TV not too long ago. I didn't think about it afterwards and quickly forgot about it all together, but it's pretty obvious that lots of people saw the connection to Mitchell.

He’s so smug for a guy with such a little accomplishment. Image the same same smugness for the worlds largest tinfoil ball or rubber band collection.
