Hi there folks on the Mego Museum Forums!
I have long admired the work and devotion to your craft that I've seen on these boards, and some of you featured in the custom galleries here are truly masters. My hats off to you all and I hope you don't mind me borrowing some images for use in the box art of the custom I humbly present for you all here!
The following is a labor of love that started about a year and a half ago.
I've always wanted an oversize Mego-like figure of the Marvel embodiment of everything... Eternity. I've seen a few examples of this custom here and there, but really wanted to go to town on the box design and make him as tall as I could compared to other 8 inch Megos. I have a few more Doctor Strange customs, some of which were done by Illegal Mego here on these boards, as well as countless other Doctor Strange toys, comics and collectibles. (You can view pix of my collection HERE if you're interested.)
When the DC Direct 13 inch Lex Luthor came out, I knew that would be a perfect base for an oversize Mego custom Eternity. My father-in-law did a fantastic job painting him in his studio at Florida Stage (he's a prop master there!), and really hit it out of the park.
Then the costume was made by another Doctor Strange fan, Juana Moore Overmyer, over at www.cleascave.com. She's great at making doll clothing, so I found some fabric with universe and planet patterns on it and sent it her way. The results, in my opinion, are the best intergalactic Mego pajamas I could ever hope to get for this figure! (Thanks again, Juana!)
Finally, the original Lex Luthor box was modified.
Lex had a tiny laser gun packed with him, so I had to find a similar weapon from the Doctor Strange mythos to go in its place. Luckily, the latest Doc mini series featured Hitler's suicide gun, which was given mystical powers from its bad mojo. (Read the series if you have the inclination. It's the best Dr. Strange story in years and it was written by Brian K. Vaughan, who now writes for TV's "Lost"!)
A Dragon Figure Walther P38 fit perfectly.
I printed the box design on a giant sheet of vinyl adhesive. It's far from the traditional Mego box, even for the few 12 inch superhero figures they put out. Still, I wanted to feature a photo gallery of related toys, a bio of Eternity (shamelessly "borrowed" from Marvel.com), and some photo montages of the figure based on iconic images of the character. It was a blast to design but once again hope no one minds me appropriating some tiny images in the name of geekdom!
So without further ado... Here are the results of not just mine, but a few other people's labor. Hope you like!
