Kristen Wiig is Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2

As my friend Rob said, time to reassemble the angry "Michael Keaton can't be Batman!" mob.

    Thoughts?

I am a bit confused as to what Jenkins is going for with Wiig, so I really don't know what to think.

She's capable of playing it sans laughs, in fact, if you watch Bridesmaids, she's actually the straight man. However, her dramatic characters often have kind of a "Sad Sack" quality about them.

When I first saw Gadot as WW I remember thinking she was wooden and unconvincing but under Jenkins, that all changed, so I'll give this the benefit of the doubt.

^Good points. Maybe they are going with Cheetah as completely unhinged (which she usually is in the comics), and feel a strong comedic actor can pull that off?

Definitely outside the box casting no matter how you look at it.

I'm not really against this. I like Wiig as an actress, I think she has range beyond the comedy bits, and really hasn't done much to show it yet. As you say, she usually gets the poor me girl roles.
Since 99% of the Cheetah will be cgi anyway, she's going to concentrate on being Minerva.

Hopefully Jenkins can coax the kind of performance out of Wiig required to nail both parts. I was REALLY hoping for Sarah Paulson, but c’est la vie.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I get her and Wiig mixed up all the time.

I’m a Kristen Wiig fan. I think she’s a great comedic actress. Bridesmaids was a really funny movie.

She has the acting chops to be serious as well.

I like the casting...Wiig will be the Yin to Gadot’s Yang...

She also was the straight man in the all female Ghostbusters...

An interesting choice and she certainly contrasts with Gadot.

I like Kristen Wiig and do not doubt she has range beyond being funny or outright wacky. She is a great talent. And while I can feel this initial wave of doubt about her being right for this creeping up on me....I am reminded of one thing: Patty Jenkins made this choice. Patty Jenkins is excited by this choice. That's all I need to know because as far as I am concerned, Patty Jenkins has earned her spurs when it comes to making a great comic book movie. I have every confidence that she knows what she is doing and Kristen Wiig can pull off whatever Patty has in store.

I love Robin Wright, but I could never have pictured Princess Buttercup as General Antiope, but holy cow....did she nail it. Always thought she was good, but man, she pulled fierce out of the bag. So we have precedence.

All I know is that DC needs to raise the bar and Patty Jenkins is the proven and best hope. I love what Marvel has done, but DC has lagged until "Wonder Woman". And I don't hate the casting of the other movies, just the tone. Patty freaking nailed it! She gets it.
