    Eagle 1 Spaceship

I absolutely adore the Mattel Space:1999 Eagle and have never met a kid who had it, whose eyes didn't glaze over when I mention it.

My favorite toy I've never enjoyed as a kid ...

Never seen or heard of one until I was babysitting my bro's kids around 1980-ish

Was already in high school at the time --- was around 15-16 year old-ish

When I seen that Eagle sprawled around in pieces on my bro's floor I was like DANG !!! ........

Made me even forget about girls for about 10 minutes

Later, when I started collecting I couldn't get enough of them

Used to buy and sell/trade pieces to complete them.

REALLY good fun times --- probably my fav non action figure toy of all time

I had that! I don't remember the figures being metal tho. The legs were interchangeable so you could have a different figure sitting on its arse.

I had one too! I LOVED it!! I liked how I could detach the front module and connect the engine/thrusters to make a smaller Ship out of it...REALLY COOL!!

Still haven't figured out how to successfully de-yellow the glue lines properly

The figures weren't metal, they were plastic.
I had this as a kid and it magically vanished at some point- I reacquired one off ebay years ago.

To try and whiten the glue lines you might try some 40 volume creme developer (meant for lightening hair). You spread it on and let is sit in clear plastic bag in teh sun for a few hours. This is what most people use to lighten yellowed plastic- should also help on old glue discoloration.

Man, I loved this when I was a kid.
                Hours of fun with it.
I used to try building landing bays for it with tinker-toys and cardboard.

Sadly, mines demise was my own fault.
For some holiday or birthday, someone got me a wood-burning set. Didn't take me long to figure out the hot tip on the woodburner would make some really cool 'battle damage' on the Eagle.
And, as kids are wont to do, I kept giving it more damage, and more damage. Before too long, it was too damaged to play with anymore :(

You can read some about it here:
We all have plastics that had yellowed with age. Keyboards, mice, printers, gaming consoles - you name it. And no matter how you scrub it, you just can't get back its original color. Or can it? Here's a method that you can try at home. Caution: It's not for the faint-hearted.

Here's a video (this particular video kind of sucks, but there's a million of them on YouTube):
The Salon Care 40 Creme restores plastic very well in direct sun light.

Was at an auction yesterday and bid on one of these, but didn't win. It was pretty cool looking!

A neighborhood friend had one and I'd go over to his house and play with the toy. Micronauts and Star Wars figures usually found their way into the ship. This has been on my radar ever since and haven't picked one up for myself. Maybe this year I'll get around to it.
I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.

I had always wanted one, and lucked out finding a boxed one in a junk store one day. Wasn't complete, had a lot of it there, but my wife complained about it taking up so much space so I sold it.

                          Should have kept it....

Oof, I remember dragging one of these over the border for a certain someone, that toy is a monster! If you end up buying one of these, you sure aren't going to sneak it into the house past your wife. I never had one as a kid, nor did I know anyone that did. Too bad, because that would have been very fun to play with.

                              Yeah. It's a big one.

Had a chance to get one a few years ago. My best friend had just dug his out from his parents place and asked if I wanted it (and his Shogun Godzilla)
Had to decline, because I just have no place to store either of them. :(
