Oh thanks for letting me know what that is. I guess Adidas kicked in something because it's SO prominent on the final package.

Also, even though its a 1977 toy fair, they have a pic of a football with World Cup 1974. Just googled it and indeed Germany won and they were wearing that kit in 74.

I've got some fun ones for next week, I may even have this one. The top brass of Mego showed up for this thing.

Was the Beckenbauer figure pre or post New York Cosmos? I watched Cosmos soccer religiously here in the US and remember the likes of Pele, Beckenbauer, and Giorgio Chinaglia. Even hung around for Shep Messing. So when I had the Beckenbauer figure many years ago...I knew who he was.

According to a quick google search. Franz Beckenbauer joined the New York Cosmos in 1983, so yes 'pre' this promo pic was 1977.

The article treats MC Toys and Mego as two separate companies that had a relationship, but could MC Toys be a subsidiary of Mego? (or have some kind of ownership/investment) Does MC have a history of its own? Does it still exist?

I ask give the similarity in the MC logo and Mego's own "m" logo. Of course, "MC Toys" could be "Mego Corporation Toys" All that could also simply be coincidence.

I'm honestly not sure what the German laws were at the time regardning foreign ownership but if they were similiar to Canada, it's probably quite a close relationship with no direct ownership.

I mean, the Mego logo appears on the Beckenbauer package, not MC and I have an article that states that Marty and David Abrams, as well as Neil Kublan, were at German toy fair for this launch. Seems like a vested interest in MC toys success.

You know, I think I first saw this figure in Bonavida's book. I had no idea who Beckenbauer was but admired the sculpt.
