I think that must be Canadian Netflix, cuz it ain't available here.
The one with the old farts is mostly boring, but has some fun stuff. The book is pretty dang good though.Comment

Good call on Burt Offerings. You're right, it's a little uneven but compelling.
I liked Ghost Story with "the old guys" and Krige. I should check out the novel.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

This thread is making me feel guilty! I love horror, but am ashamed to say the paranormal genre is one that I've not given proper attention to.
I've not seen Legend of Hell House, Burnt Offerings, the Haunting, the Changeling, and probably other classics I can't think of.
I gravitate more towards monsters, euro-horror, 70s/80s horror, occult/satanic stuff, and some slashers and giallos, but for some reason, I don't give the straight up ghost stories their due.
Having said that, let me look at my collection and see what I enjoyed enough to buy
Poltergeist
The Lady in White
The Woman in Black
Kill Baby Kill
Amityville Horror
Crimson Peak
Carnival of Souls
Hasu
House
The FogComment

Carnival of Souls is pretty amazing considering its production and budget.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

I always enjoyed "The Fog"Comment

Just watched that the other day.
Is Carnival or Souls considered a ghost story? Always saw it as a Zombie movie, with a twist.
And I just gotta say, I have never understood the love for House and House II. I started and stopped the first one multiple times and forced myself to finally get through it. Lotta people love them though, and I can't begrudge people their personal taste.
Forgot about The Changeling. Have always dug that one. And what a brutal opening! And Kill Baby Kill is uber creepy!! Nice choices Hedji.Comment

Thank you! If you enjoyed Carnival of Souls, check out Messiah of Evil. It's got a similar tone, but with a Romero-esque 1970s flavor to it. Made by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, whose names you may recognize from their associations with George Lucas. (They scripted American Graffiti and Temple of Doom and directed Howard the Duck). A very unique and unsettling movie.
The Fog is a masterpiece that just gets better with age. And extra points for having 3 Creepshow cast members in it!Comment

Just watched Messiah of Evil yesterday, for the second time. How funny is that! I LOVE that movie. I watched it because I had just watched Let's Scare Jessica to Death and it totally reminded me of MOE.Comment
