What are your top five "Ghost" movies?

I love ghost and haunted house movies...I prefer the classic stuff with all the trappings.

Not into the Japanese stuff which dominated for so long, although I did like the first "Ring"

    My top five are:

    The Haunted Palace
    The Legend of Hell House
    The Skull
    Ghost Story
    Crimson Peak

I think that's a good list, I love Haunted Palace and thought Crimson Peak was great. I also like:

    The Innocents
    The Uninvited
    The Sixth Sense
    The Others
    The Haunting (original)
    The Devil's Backbone

There's a Japanese one from the 60s (?) set in feudal times that I recall, I can't think of the name.

^I don't know about you, but I think Crimson Peak is the best designed haunted house ever.

I like The Devil's Backbone more as a film, but the art direction of Crimson Peak is sumptuous.

I always like these types of threads, you all are reminding me of other interesting films.

I forgot a couple really good recent films..."Mama" was scary as hell, and "The Woman In Black" was very atmospheric as well.

You guys named some great ones. The Innocents was one I recently watched for the first time, and it genuinely unnerved me.

Burnt Offerings is equally unsettling. It's a bit slow in spots, but man, it's grim.

                    Crimson Peak
Which version of The Ring? I think I liked the US version of The Ring more than the original. I liked the imagery more, and Watts was really good.

I haven't seen any of these others yet - I'll check them out! I think Crimson Peak is on Netflix now.

Is "Ghost Story" the one with Casey Affleck? I've been meaning to check that out.

Would "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" count? Seemed kinda ghosty, but I guess who knows what was going on in that, right?

                        Poltergeist
                        Ghostbusters
                        Beetlejuice
                        Hausu (or House in English)
                        House (the 80s movie)
                        Carnival of Souls
                        The Shining

                        Some good animated ones:
Coraline (Oops - remembered the title wrong and corrected the spelling now!)
                        Spirited Away
                        ParaNorman
And of course the fantastic Disney short "Lonesome Ghosts"

One of my favourite toys is my Fisher-Price Movie Viewer that I've had since I was a kid - it had this in it. I use to just go through it frame by frame over and over:

                            In no particular order:

                            The Sixth Sense
                            The Innocents
                            The Others
                            Poltergeist
                            Hausu

                            Least favorite:

I think he's talking about the movie from the '80s with all the old farts in it.

The Casey Affleck movie is fairly interesting, but it's not really a "haunted house" movie. It's available on Amazon Prime right now.
