BOOM! to release comic adaptation of Rod Serling's original Planet of the Apes script

    https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/02...the-apes-boom/

Bleeding Cool has an article detailing BOOM! Studios plans to adapt Rod Serling's original unused Planet of the Apes screenplay to comics in a book called Planet of the Apes: Visionaries coming out in August.

I looks to be in the vein of the Lucas Draft adaptation Dark Horse did of Star Wars which used George Lucas' original version of the screenplay done in the early 70s before he revised it. BOOM! is using Serling's original screenplay which they determined was unshootable (because of the effects needed/production costs to being to the screen) and later versions of it by others became what we saw on the screen in the '68 movie.

They are using some of the test footage done with that original screenplay as the launching point for the visual style of the adaptation.

    Could be interesting.

Is this the one with the Edward G. Robinson version of Dr.Zaius?

Yes. Serling's script like the original novel featured a more advanced Apes culture.

The artwork in the article has a street scene that looks like the Eisenhower Era.....except, you know, apes. Which is kind of cool because that era of comics has a lot of Gorillas. Some of the "Strange Adventure" stories were almost "POTA"-like.

Supercool! Also mentioned: This landmark graphic novel continues the year long celebration of the Planet of the Apes 50th Anniversary at BOOM! Studios, which has included all new comic book series, coloring books, archival collections and more.

If it's as good as the Star Wars and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep adaptations I'll check it out.

I loved the look of the SW comic, most McQuarish, but the story itself was most underwhelming. Never read it, but I'm hoping that Serling's script had more to offer that Lucas' first pass.

Sheep, eh? I'll have to seek that out!

For some reason I got to thinking about this today and knew we are getting kind of close to the release (August) so I went looking for some updates.

Found this update from last month and there is a pretty lengthy section from the book put up as a preview. Enough to arouse an appetite without quite bedding it down.
