McActionfigures : More Fun than Burgers

My local Eaton's growing up had a huge McDonaldland display that looked just like this in a cube in the middle of their toy department. I recall being kind of in awe of the diorama but it couldn't compete with Big Jim, Bulletman or the Mego Superheroes in my five year old brain.

I was later told by a salesman for Irwin Toys (the distributor in Canada) that I wasn't alone in that.

I wanted the Big Mac and Mayor figures . Not sure why I didn't get any of the reissues when they came out.

Great timing. I just made Brick Mantooth score a KO-1 over Hamburlar for my kids yesterday during a game.

I had a stuffed Ronald...with no McDonald's around back then to go to. Still, I recognized him from TV commercials. Had I seen these, I may have wanted them.

The repro Remco figures used to be easy to get, and reasonably priced. Now they're going up up up!

I think I remember seeing these in tv commercials, but I don't remember seeing them at local McDonalds
or toy stores, but then again when I went to the local Kresge's or Child Worlds, I went straight to the aisle
with the Mego's, so maybe Big Mac and the gang were in another section, perhaps with the Waltons Mego's
because I don't remember seeing those either.

After encountering this thread, Hollywood might want to start working on a dark live-action Hamburgerlar movie. First of a film saga.

I loved my 1976 Hamburglar. I chose him as my Grade 1 grading present. He fought equally well alongside my Super-Hero Megos, my Big Jim and my Bulletman. I recall him coming along to my grade 2 class for a Show-&-Tell spotlight. If I remember right, the knob on his back turned his head.

I’m not sure if it was my idea or someone else’s, but I did have a Ronald and the Hamburglar. I remember playing with them, but if memory serves, their play value was limited. Think about it. What do you do with a couple of six inch clowns? The other figures that I had were either inches or above or 3 3/4 inches (Star Wars and Adventure people) and not clowns.

Nonetheless, they were very well executed figures. I recognized this even then.

I don't have much to say... and maybe its just the 70's T.V.-addled, eating-disordered 6-year-old in me, but I just have to say that I think this tiny line was one of the all-time best.

                        Thank you.

What's the lowdown on how you acquired the booths and the restaurant diorama...

if I could hunt those down, I could see myself preferring that over the unwieldy Remco McDonaldland playset cardboard base.
