Zorak's people face reminds me of someone, just can't think of whom.

Yeah, a lot of Jim concepts found their way into MOTU. Mattel was good at that.

I think that Man-E-Faces had a much more stripped down concept because the Zorak face change gimmick was the work of an outside toy designer.

Because of this thread I renewed my search for Zorak and found one, complete and in good condition, so I can now mark another childhood grail off the list.

And yes, his green face has that gradation we were talking about.

That is lovely. I won't lie, I'm zorak-green with envy.

This whole discussion, though, confuses me. My gut feeling is that these variances are due to paint apps and production runs. Nearly every Zorak I check on ebay a few days ago had a uniform green face. On one lacking a cowl, you could see that the upper forehead hadn't been fully sprayed green.
WANTED: Gray AJ Mustang horse; Dale Arden dagger; Grayson SI trousers; POTA Fortress signal-flasher--top mirrored portion or mirror sticker; POTA Forbidden Zone prison doors, walls, bar; vintage Galahad box; minty Wolfman tights; Black Knight sword; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Personally, I think he looks like a surly Robert Taylor.

Funny, cuz as I mentioned, all the ones I saw had the gradation. And it's almost always drawn that way on the box art. Now it may have been born out of necessity, or just a happy coinkydink. Gonna throw up the Plaidstallions box image for reference. Without speaking to someone from Mattel I think it's all speculation on the hows and whys, but it's kinda cool that it makes for so many variants.

^Now we know why Robert Goulet didn't show up at Mr. Burn's Casino.
