The Wonder Woman Paradise Island Playset

When we published our list of the “Top Ten Mego Superhero Toys that never got made” one thing we didn’t have a good image of was the Wonder Woman Paradise Island Playset from 1977. It’s such an interesting item that we decided to rectify that by giving it it’s own blog post.   Shop for…

Holey moley this is fantastic. I had overlooked the commercial in the original thread, noticing instead the standard tri-sided playset.

Just imagine using this with the slightly smaller 8" figures. Impressive!
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Neat! Way nicer than the other WW prototype playset.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

*swoon* The only thing that could beat this is a 1/9 Invisible Jet.

Interesting variant costumes in the dolls and check out Nubia's shield.

Yeah, some cool variants there! And that playset would be an awesome backdrop for the dolls, too bad it wasn't produced.

That whole WW line should have been in 8" scale but yeah it would have been legendary.

These are super early mock ups.... Notice Nubia's shield and boots are from 8" knights (?), Diana's costume is all painted ( and rounded, not pointed neckline) and that's not Hippolyta's head sculpt.

These are the same dolls used in the " sizzle real" Mego made for ( probably) Toy Fair to show toy dealers . ( You can see it on YouTube) .

I really like this playset (I’m not a Wonder Woman collector either). It’s pretty neat, with it’s opening double doors, knock down wall, the closet for outfits, the island scenery artwork and the pillars on the other side, plus the Greek architecture...very cool.
