The Top Ten Mego Superhero toys that Never got made….

by Brain Heiler Mego- A name synonymous with “Superhero” in the 1970s and certainly one of the pioneers of licensed action figure success, while they are no longer, their formula and creativity live on today (hey, you may have heard, we’re fans). While the World’s Greatest Toy Company had an incredible, unprecedented amount of…

The magnetic Spider-Man always seemed like such a no brainer. The growling Hulk doesn't look too fun and with no batteries needed the growler was probably just one of those moo cans stuffed inside.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yeah, I really honestly believe Mego put the kibosh on the magnetic Spidey for the reasons I described.

As for the Growling Hulk, I agree, it's not terribly interesting.

That immobile Joker figure in those early playsets will always haunt me. So weird. And Krypto in the Superman set! We never got him!

I for one would have liked the Spider-Man alley. So many super hero stories (particularly Spidey and Batman) happen in back alleys, so why not?

        GREAT list!!!

This IS a great list. I keep going back and taking another look. It really demands you spend time and thought on each one to imagine the play value. Well done!

Those Pocket Heroes playsets would have grabbed my attention, the Fortress of Solitude looks sweet!

The Superhero Adventure Sets seem awesome. It seems such a natural extension from what they started with the Action Jackson line... but so much cooler than a fisherman outfit.

Great list and article! That 12" Mr. Fantastic haunted me for years (like probably almost 20 years!) until I finally found out that it never happened.

Not much really that didnt get released for the 8 inch line, I wouldve loved to see the western playset get made , and also the BC tree house.

those aren't superhero items so they didn't get a mention.

It's not uncommon, most of the comments are people telling me I should have included Dukes of Hazzard and Black Hole items? I think I should have put the word "Superhero" in all caps and then set it on fire.
