I was surprised that Snoke was disposed of since I figured he would be around for one more film. I liked that Kylo Ren is now a lost cause but I have a feeling Abrams may change that.

He is not a lost cause - this trilogy is a re-envisioning of the original. It is the story of Rey's journey and Ren's redemption.
I speculate we will find out more about Snoke (If not in the film, through other media)

I've read that if you didn't like the first scene when "Luke chucks the lightsaber over his shoulder", then you might have a issue with the rest of the movie. It did really set the tone, and I laughed, but thought, Luke wouldn't do that.

I liked the movie overall, but it's the first Star Wars movie I don't think I have interest in seeing a second time in the theater.

I had a lot of questions at the end of TFA. Who is Snoke, who is Rey's parents, what the heck is up with Luke? Came away from The Last Jedi disappointed...

Snoke, cut in half? Are you kidding me?
Rey's parents, I don't buy it that they are nobody.
Luke, I need way more info and no I don't want a Force Ghost Luke telling me what's up.

Poe, Finn, Hux and Phasma might as well not have been in the movie. They didn't advance anything to the story. I think Phasma was in the movie even less than TFA... Hux was just an idiot, and Poe and Finn could have been dropped and no one would have missed them.

Finn and Rose's trip to the casino planet was useless, and their entire plan didn't even pan out.

Why the heck didn't they tell Poe what was going on with the transport ships?

What's with the slow moving bomber ships? Those were particularly lame...

In what universe can a handful of resistance ships outrun every First Order ship for the entire movie? This slow moving chase which composed the bulk of the movie was very silly.

When Leia turned into Superman, I really couldn't believe what I was seeing... in a bad way.

Obviously it is sounds like I didn't like it, not the case. I really liked ever scene with Mark Hamill, I thought the movie was shot well, but I was hoping for much, much more.

I think the lightsaber toss could have been handled differently, but in a way that was Luke.

Snoke had that coming. He had all but stated it by noting he thought Ren would be stronger and by noting he could see Ren's thoughts and Ren had not turned from the Darkside.

I don't believe Rey's parent are nobody. They are Han and Leia.

Finn and Rose's trip wasn't successful. Doesn't that add some realism? And it introduced the new bad guy and ended phasma.

Why not tell Poe about the transport ships. Perhaps it was necessary for the plan to work or for an alternative plan allowance.

Slow bombers? Yeah. What's up with that?

What more do you need of Luke? I thought his journey was completed.

they couldn't out run the imperial fleet. each ship could travel a maximum sub light speed.

Leia superman. Either this was because of ship shield coverage or the force. They could have rewritten the scene to let her die when the actress died. At least they could have allowed her character a death in the final battle on the rebel base.

That tone was upheld when Po (Poe?) was hailing Hux as he approached the Star Destroyer and the extended sequence of Po acting like he was on hold and pretending to not be able to hear Hux monolouging. I know he was trying to stall, but again, it was a long scene played for laughs. I know that SW has always had comedic moments but some of this was Spaceballs territory.

I don't see how it was all that different than the tone Lucas set in ANH when Han Solo was bluffing badly over the Detention Center console communication ("We're all fine here... How are you?"). Poe is really the new cocky daredevil, so it seemed very consistent with that sort of humor.

I think Luke tossing the saber over his shoulder was played more for shock than laugh. It is only funny given the context of waiting two years for an epic reaction to an epic cliffhanger, but it was the right response to jolt the audience and let them know that Luke wanted none of it, on no uncertain terms.

I avoided all media info for this show - total blackout. Not even watched the trailer....
I went in without expectations other than hopes of seeing Luke kick some serious butt.
I left this movie with a total Whaaaaaaat and I have no desire to see episode 9.
I think Star Wars as I knew it has died.
Two hours of Luke being a whinny little beeotch......and whatever he did at the end was over the top....
CGI Yoda looked effing ridiculous ......
Smoke killed like that without ANY explanation to who the hell he even was??!!!!??!!!!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???!?

            geez....

Had it been anything other than named Star Wars, it may have been cool.
Oh, and there was a big cgi scene of animals running around that reminded me of Kenobi riding that goofy animal in Attack of the Clones.......

            sigh
I realize I am in an extreme minority of these feelings probably....

            Spoilers...

If you are in the minority, I am there too. I really enjoyed both The Force Awakens and Rogue One and was all set to be rocked by what was set up in TFA, but the longer this movie went along, the more my expectations began to sink. Anything set up in the previous movie was quickly abandoned. It seems really directionless now.

Just thinking of the characters... Rey, who grew to know Han Solo through the last movie and knew nothing about Kylo (who has tried to kill her numerous times) and watched as he mudered Han, spent this whole movie trying to redeem him and convince others that he's not so bad. For me, that just wasn't earned.

Po... Was super cool and had it together in TFA... Seemed a one-note loose cannon this time around.

Fin... Might as well not have been in the movie. His whole sub-plot was never a factor in even the most remote way. He was set up in TFA to really have a nice arc. It just didn't work here for me, maybe it did for some.

Phasma... There to sell toys? I don't know. Just never had anything to do. Feel sorry for the actor.

Luke... Poor Luke... A generation has waited to see what happened to the saga's greatest hero. Just a missed opportunity and that's all. You only get to kill a character like Luke-freaking-Skywalker once in a lifetime and nobody in my theatre even shrugged. Oh well, there he goes. Mr. Mark Hamill did all he could do with what he was handed and it's not his fault. Just a limp story.

I could really go on about a bunch of things but... Nah....

I know it sounds like I didn't see anything at all redeeming about the picture but that's not true. I have been happy to have even been afforded the chance to see these characters again. I didn't think it would ever happen. There were a few moments that made me smile just because it was Star Wars and hey, that's enough with a bag of popcorn and some Junior Mints.

But I agree with the above post. Star Wars for our generation may be dead and beyond resurrection. That's ok. Let this generation have their own Star Wars, Disney-fied and Marvelized.

But really, I hope that this generation gets their own Jaws or Star Wars or Indiana Jones or Alien or something that catches the zeitgeist during their impressionable years like those things did for us. That's where the magic happens that sticks with you throughout your life. They wont be finding that with The Last Jedi I don't think.

I find the comment about Star Wars being "Marvelized" by Disney particularly humorous, since the film felt very much to me like a 70's Marvel Star Wars comic. And I LOVED every minute of it.

I think I'm admittedly too close to this. I'm a massive SW fan, and loved it dearly. Although, I don't know... a lot of SW fans are trashing the film, so I guess I'll just accept it's a very divisive SW film. I truly am a bit sad that it's not universally embraced, but life's too short for me to try to change anyone's mind. Personally, I could not be happier. Well, maybe I could be happier if George Lucas were still involved. But, who knows? Maybe not. I'm just happy to be alive getting a new SW movie every year.

I always like to put things in perspective: Can you imagine if this film came out first in 1977? I know, it's not fair to do that, because it's built on a foundation to which we can't help but compare and rank it, but still, this film shows tremendous craft and truly epic filmmaking.

Don't think this will change anyone's mind, but I thought this article was a terrific write up of why the film is great. I'd recommend taking a few minutes to read it.

                      http://www.slashfilm.com/the-last-jedi-defense/

Next to some of the Prequels, it challenges the viewer more than just giving what is expected.

I think that is why Rogue One is as popular as it is; You can watch the trailer and pretty much know exactly what you're going to get. It serves to please in a predictable and safe way. It's well assembled, with some breathtaking visuals, but Rogue One takes place in a comfortable time period, with safe parameters and a serious tone that is very popular these days.

personally, I loved the movie. I did not think it was over long or boring at all. there were a few things that bothered me though.....as already mentioned, all the build up on who is Snoke and then they just kill him and that is that. same thing with the mystery of who Rey's parents might be.

I think part of the problem here is that they did not have a storyline for a trilogy. they are making it up as they go.

I loved the appearance of Yoda and I think he purposely looked like a puppet so he looked exactly like he did in Empire and Jedi. I was thinking Rey stole the books because she had a plan to try and redeem Ben Solo and needed the books to learn for herself

Yes, I love that you spot the books in a compartment of the Falcon at the end. Makes you wonder if Yoda knew Rey had taken them, and that the tree cave was empty before he burned it.

What do you make of the rest of the Resistance receiving the call for help with Leia's personal signal, yet not responding? I know the plot mandated that no cavalry come to the rescue, but do you think there's another story reason for that? Is the resistance factioned or fractured so that this small group is being ignored? Or is the First Order dealing with the rest of the Resistance simultaneously, and that's why no huge armada showed up to wipe out our heroes?

there's a lot of directions they could take that plot point.....they could use the whole incident as a spark of a new rebellion, they way Bravehearts death at the end finally united all the clans against England.

I am wondering how they will explain Leia away

I'm wondering the Leia thing too. My best guess is that they rearranged things and took some scenes out of this movie and will shoehorn them into the next. She is really set up to play a major part so it's s very interesting, and saddening, aspect that I've been thinking about quite s bit.
