Ok, remember folks... This is a spoiler thread, so read on at your own risk.

    Spoiler.....
    Spoiler....
    Spoiler...

    Spoiler...

I have a lot of points that I hope are addressed, but for me the tone of the whole movie was set in the first few scenes and I just never really found the rhythm I guess. First... After all the great foreshadowing and mystery established with TFA getting Rey to that island to find Luke and that final dramatic scene where the John Williams music is building and Rey tries to hand Luke his light-sabre back and his grim countenance, he tosses it behind his back over his shoulder and says "meh". It was played for a laugh. My gosh, a lot of people have waited two years to see what happens next, and there it was.

That tone was upheld when Po (Poe?) was hailing Hux as he approached the Star Destroyer and the extended sequence of Po acting like he was on hold and pretending to not be able to hear Hux monolouging. I know he was trying to stall, but again, it was a long scene played for laughs. I know that SW has always had comedic moments but some of this was Spaceballs territory.

Just got back from the midnight show. Was horribly sick the last couple of days so this was my first chance. I enjoyed it just enough, but didn't love it. It was s bit of a mixed bag.

I agree with the above post. I thought some of the humor was too forced. I'm all for humor, but much didn't work, although I thought the light saber scene was pretty funny. The Poe scene I agree with. Some new characters were thrown in without enough given to care about them which caused it to be s bit of a busy mess at times. It also felt s a bit long, as the last hour until the inevitable Luke / Kylo (sort of) showdown, dragged for me.

I continued to really like Adam Driver as Kylo and I like his dynamic with Rey. I thought Mark Hamill stole the show, with just the right amount of cynicism, humor, and world weariness to play Luke as the wounded older warrior.

Probably have more thoughts in the morning.

I liked it more than I did The Force Awakens on first viewing. I thought it was too long. The stuff on Canto Bight felt like it was never going to end. Some of the humor was done well and some seemed out of place. Poe pranking Hux didn't seem like it fit in the Star Wars universe.

I've read that if you didn't like the first scene when "Luke chucks the lightsaber over his shoulder", then you might have a issue with the rest of the movie. It did really set the tone, and I laughed, but thought, Luke wouldn't do that.

I liked the movie overall, but it's the first Star Wars movie I don't think I have interest in seeing a second time in the theater.

I had a lot of questions at the end of TFA. Who is Snoke, who is Rey's parents, what the heck is up with Luke? Came away from The Last Jedi disappointed...

Snoke, cut in half? Are you kidding me?
Rey's parents, I don't buy it that they are nobody.
Luke, I need way more info and no I don't want a Force Ghost Luke telling me what's up.

Poe, Finn, Hux and Phasma might as well not have been in the movie. They didn't advance anything to the story. I think Phasma was in the movie even less than TFA... Hux was just an idiot, and Poe and Finn could have been dropped and no one would have missed them.

Finn and Rose's trip to the casino planet was useless, and their entire plan didn't even pan out.

Why the heck didn't they tell Poe what was going on with the transport ships?

What's with the slow moving bomber ships? Those were particularly lame...

In what universe can a handful of resistance ships outrun every First Order ship for the entire movie? This slow moving chase which composed the bulk of the movie was very silly.

When Leia turned into Superman, I really couldn't believe what I was seeing... in a bad way.

Obviously it is sounds like I didn't like it, not the case. I really liked ever scene with Mark Hamill, I thought the movie was shot well, but I was hoping for much, much more.

I was surprised that Snoke was disposed of since I figured he would be around for one more film. I liked that Kylo Ren is now a lost cause but I have a feeling Abrams may change that.

While I'm not going into spoiler territory, I want to touch upon some things. In short, I think it's better than TFA. That said, there is really nothing NEW to the saga, per se. I mean, so much of the movie (as with the case TFA) was a rehash. The space battles are at a point in this saga where they're by rote. The 'new' planets didn't leave much of an impression, certainly not the one at the end of movie. Visually the movie runs hot and cold. The outer space setting was too flat. Can't we for once have something more than a blank canvas with a bunch of stars and maybe have some stuff like nebulae to give it more variety? Apart from that, the humor was too much, key characters were forgotten, or the new ones underdeveloped and shoehorned into the plot. And where is the menagerie of aliens? Too many humans milling about.
I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.

I avoided all media info for this show - total blackout. Not even watched the trailer....
I went in without expectations other than hopes of seeing Luke kick some serious butt.
I left this movie with a total Whaaaaaaat and I have no desire to see episode 9.
I think Star Wars as I knew it has died.
Two hours of Luke being a whinny little beeotch......and whatever he did at the end was over the top....
CGI Yoda looked effing ridiculous ......
Smoke killed like that without ANY explanation to who the hell he even was??!!!!??!!!!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???!?

                        geez....

Had it been anything other than named Star Wars, it may have been cool.
Oh, and there was a big cgi scene of animals running around that reminded me of Kenobi riding that goofy animal in Attack of the Clones.......

                        sigh
I realize I am in an extreme minority of these feelings probably....

I did think the mood luke exhibited with the lightsaber toss seemed inconsistent. tossing it seemed OK. just not his attitude toward it.

I loved Star Wars in 1977. The scene that moved me most was the Binary Sunset while Luke stood yearning for his adventure. Him watching it to the Binary Sunset song to mark the completion of his journey what made the new moving over the top awesome for me.- And the 2 bright twin stars seen by the kid.

This new trilogy is such a great re-envisioning of the original trilogy. This is Rey's journey and the redemption of Ben Solo. Where Force Awakens paralleled ST, this one parallels ESB. I kept writing to see or at least hear bout Lando. Hopefully there won't be Ewoks in the next.

Were her parents really junk Traders? I have thought since their introduction that they are brother and sister. I still believe this is the case.

and who put the Jedi books on the Falcon? Rey, Luke, Chewie, the Caretakers, Yoda? I think Yoda did it. They are real. He needed Luke to let them go in order to move on.

                            This movie was AWESOME!!!!!

Yes, a couple things you mention could be improved, but that was minor.

I went in without expectations other than hopes of seeing Luke kick some serious butt.

Luke used the force to absolutely kick butt.

Snoke's identity being unknown is a good story device. Speculation is fun. Knowing it does not improve the story currently.
The way he died was great. He could detect Ren was conflicted, because he was not. Also Ren is far stronger than Snoke thought.

Yes the CGI animals were a little annoying, but I know there is a generation behind us who actually love teh prequels. This was for them.
