Saw it today and I am somewhat torn. I don't want to talk specifics and spoil anything for anyone, so I'll wait until a spoiler thread is begun before talking plot points and such. On the one hand, it's a freaking new Star Wars movie with some much beloved characters, familiar themes and awesome John Williams music! But on the other hand, I kept waiting to be swept away and I never was. Old and jaded? Maybe, dunno. With some of the things that happened in this movie, I feel like I should have left the theatre with some sort of feeling... at least maybe the feeling that I wanted to see it again. But I kinda feel like once was enough.

Seen it twice now. Was able to relax more the second time as I knew what was coming.
I do like the movie overall, except for that one choice that Rian Johnson made regarding Luke.

In that, I agree completely with Mark Hamill:

After reading the script for STAR WARS EPISODE VIII: THE LAST JEDI, Mark Hamill told director Rian Johnson:
"I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you've made for this character [Luke Skywalker]. Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you've created and do my best to realize your vision."
        PUNY HUMANS!

Wow...not exactly a ringing endorsement of the script is it? He's also gone on to say...“What I wish is that they had been more accepting of his(George Lucas) guidance and advice. Because he had an outline for ‘7,’ ‘8,’ and ‘9’. And it is vastly different to what they have done.”

I haven't been the world's biggest fan of Star Wars lately, it's mostly fan service and rehash in my eyes.

That said, this installment is the best thing I've seen with that logo plastered on it in years. It took chances, went left when you expected right (maybe to a fault, i dunno) and didn't cave to fan pressure and predictability.

Some stuff I could have lived without, the casino didn't fit and my God the "Aw C'mon" with Luke meandered a bit but I still found myself genuinely engaged, which is weird because I was dragged to this.

I'm honestly pleased with a star war!

To me, Mark Hamill was the best thing in the whole movie. His scenes just carried weight, even when he was being flippant.

Second viewing today. I'm baffled at the negative fan response to this. This movie had the feels and character drama that Rogue One was severely lacking. This movie soars. It's daring, and risky, and dramatic, and it'll take you for a roller coaster ride of emotion. Let yourself be swept away, and just enjoy!

Is there a negative reaction to this? I'm surprised, it's actually compelling.

Saw it yesterday. The more I think of it the madder I get. Just lots of little things that I felt were lazy, bad story telling or just plain stupid. Yet I can’t say I didn’t enjoy watching it.

Has anyone seen it in 3D? Is it worth seeing it that way?

I don't know how accurate it is, and I hate to bring them up, but supposedly it has the lowest audience rating of any SW film on Rotten Tomatoes. The Associated Press picked it up, and now it's a headline on the news "Fans Disappointed With Star Wars" or something to that effect. But yeah, I'm reading a lot of net hate for this.

It's okay with me, you know, different strokes for different folks and stuff, but I'm happily euphoric that I'm seeing the films I dreamed about as a kid.

that totally was a hardware wars reference.

I didn't catch it until Brue mentioned it.

I can see a lot of die hards being put off by some character choices and the humor. That didn't bother me. My problem with the humor was that it just seemed a little forced, at times.

saw it today and loved it. the humor was not forced and not ill placed so I thought it was a welcome addition.
