Fender-style amp/pilot lights?

Is anyone here familiar with these vintage-style jewel amp/pilot lights? They have a jeweled plastic light cover & metal bezel, many replacement colors are available.

I'm curious if the plastic cover can be removed from the bezel for a custom project.

I used to play around with these for use as headlights. I have seen some where I could get the lens out without damage; others it would have been hard. I think it will depend upon the design. Do you have a pic of anything specific?
