Robby the Robot just got sold

    A bargain!

Long before robots like R2-D2 or the Terminator hit the silver screen, a 1956 movie called Forbidden Planet featured a humanoid automaton that, in all likelihood, blew your grandparents’ minds. Robby the Robot might be primitive by today’s movie prop standards, but the three-piece costume is so iconic that it recently…

I'm a little shaky about how authentic it is.

I remember reading years ago in the early 70's Robby was pretty well trashed and restored with the bulk of it being newly fabricated parts ... So the Robby you see beyond the early 70's is the Robby Frankenstein -- Columbo, Mork etc appearances.

So he's kind of a modern Theseus Ship Paradox

It does mention the restoration in the article, so its no secret.

The film director Bill Malone who directed THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL remake is certainly known as the last 'public' owner of Robby so I'm guessing he was the seller. There is a feature about it on the FORBIDDEN PLANET Blu-Ray. Shame he's passed it on but that kinda money does make things easier I'm sure.

Anyone know who bought it? I heard Spielberg was in the running, but that is just hearsay...
