    Iconic movies you've never seen

Due to a post I made in another thread...I got to thinking about all the famous films I've never seen, and have no desire to see.

    The Godfather
    A Clockwork Orange
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Blazing Saddles
    Taxi Driver
    Rocky

There are many, many more but those are the big ones.

Here's the deal...there are so many monster/fantasy movies out there that I need to watch I just don't have time to bother with anything else.
I've got a backlog of about 100 Blu-rays to watch and I'm still buying more. This month I picked up Sssssss, Return of Count Yorga and The Bat People.
I'd rather see the obscure "Boy Who Cried Werewolf" than Citizen Kane.

            Precisely.

While I believe there's value in exploring all cinema outside your comfort zone, it's not necessary to conform to others' definition of iconic. In my world, Twins of Evil is more "iconic" than Citizen Kane. I tend to make my watchlist based on iconic genre films, not Oscar winners. We happen to live in an amazing age of media choices, so watch what you like, and don't worry about what doesn't appeal to you.

Having said that, you never know what you're missing until you try. So, sometimes after a steady diet of Euro Horror, I may actually find myself trying out an old, well-regarded film I've never seen. They may not have the same impact on you as when they were released, but usually iconic films are at least well-made art that deserves a look.

Now, if you'll all excuse me, I have to decide between Lady Terminator, the Peanuts Movie, and Alucarda for tonight.

              hmm
Avatar for one, Titanic guess I have no interest in Cameron movies?
Sure I have a lot of horror movies I have skipped, 70s stuff really doesn't get my interest, nor Italian horror. Prefer the classics, universal, 50's b movies, noir crime movies,b/w war movies, Connery Bond, Brooks comedies, etc.

Why is everyone poopin' on Citizen Kane? It's a super entertaining movie.

I have never seen Avatar or Titanic. I guess I don't have a strong reason not to, but on the other hand I'm sure if I really wanted to I would have seen them by now.

I never saw 2 of the Star Wars prequels or the Man of Steel, Superman V. Batman, and probably won't ever bother with any of those.

this whole thread should be titled "I'm missing out on some amazing movies, you?"

Rocky, It's a Wonderful Life, Halloween and The Godfather? At the expense of garbage movies best reserved for MST3K? Everybody is allowed to do as they like, but it's the equivalent of saying, "I've never had filet mignon because I am always full from the tons of gas station hot dogs I ingest."

Have to disagree. For me, movies are all about escape. I have no desire to watch dramas. I can turn on the six o'clock news for that. I also can't STAND musicals. Aliens and ghosts? Plausible. A bunch of random people bursting into choreographed song and dance? Hell no.

I've never seen Top Gun, mostly because a kid in my friend circle (not my friend) was so obnoxious about the movie that I can't see the poster and not think "Jeff". I didn't like Jeff, so I have never bothered to watch a single frame of Top Gun.

Not a big fan of a lot of blockbustery types of movies, no transformers, no avatars, i don't even want to see any more Star Waes movies.

My goal now is to just watch movies I've never seen rather than endlessly go in a circle of nostalgia.

Man, I want to see everything! My list of movies would be better titled "Iconic movies I haven't seen YET!"

On any given afternoon, I might watch Clockwork Orange and Escape From L.A. back to back. That's definitely filet mignon AND hot dogs!

Having said that, I have a list of movies called "Iconic movies I don't care if I never see":

                            Titanic
                            Avatar
                            The Abyss
                            Dances with Wolves

                            Um... there might be more...
