I sincerely hope this doesn't happen. Mattel finally got smart and farmed out MOTU to other companies and we're getting some truly great toys as a result.

Already thought they were the same company

Actually, I thought just one company runs the world --- no BS

In light of this news, farming out MOTU seems like a desperate move to stay afloat.

It would be interesting if one company had both the DC and Marvel license again. But I've also heard rumors of Disney wanting their own toy company and I wonder if they might turn up in this story eventually.

Thought there were laws against forming a monoploy, Mattel and Hasbro both already own many smaller toy companies, how can Hasbro buying Mattel be legal? Hasbro already owns Tonka, Kenner, Galloob, Playskool and god knows what else. There is no competition in the market if every brand in the toy store is really just owned by one company, which is not good news for consumers.

Here's what I found with a quick google search:

"Not all monopolies are illegal; for example, businesses that produce a superior product or are well managed may disadvantage their competitors while not violating antitrust law. Monopolies are illegal if they are established or maintained through improper conduct, such as exclusionary or predatory acts."

Maybe we'll see the old Comic Action Heroes line make a comeback. What happened to Hasbro looking to buy Takara/Tomy?

I wouldn't bet on it happening.
