The absolute lowest point for the whole series, along with the equally bad McCoy run.

All kidding aside I think the McCoy run was the best of the JNT era - including the fan beloved Davison era

I really like McCoy. While he did get saddled with some stinker writing, I think his Doctor was just starting to come into his own (and get very interesting) right about the time the plug got pulled. Would love to have seen at least another season of him.

It was much the same thing with Colin Baker: not only did he get the shaft on the writing for most of his episodes, but he had to wear the most god-awful outfit of any Doctor. Not a fair shake at all.

I think half of the McCoy run is great, his first season is just a mess though, I blame it on left overs from the Saward era.

Cartmel seriously had an inspired vision for the show and combined with McCoy's rethink of the character in the second season was seriously underlooked. Russell T Davies and Stephen Moffatt both expanded a lot of the ideas and concepts in those seasons.

As for Baker, yeah, he got saddled with all the crap and a drunkard producer who simply hadn't a clue.

During the later McCoy episodes they seemed to imply the Doctor was more than just an average everyday Time Lord.

That would have been an interesting direction but it would demand a lot of retconning stories that came before it.
