    Shin Godzilla 2016

Shin Godzilla. Is it worth buying? I see Blu-rays on eBay.

It's not on Comcast OnDemand nor Netflix.

Also, how about Space Battleship Yamato 2014 movie? Have not seen it either.

And lastly, Ultraman X The Movie (2016).

I'm in the Japanese live action sci-fi and monster movie mood...

I would vote Yamato as my personal favourite, I actually own it and have watched 2-3 times. Weird Famous American band theme song at the end too.

I saw Shin Godzilla in the theater with my daughter and well, it's not something you need to own.

I can pickup Yamato for under $15.

      Shin Godzilla is more expensive.

Have you seen Ultraman X The Movie?

      I'll get Yamato, thanks, Brian...

Brian, how would you compare Shin Godzilla to the latest American one (which I liked, despite being a bit plodding)?

I bought Shin Godzilla and thought it was the best one since the '54 original. I absolutely loved it and have watched it three times already.

I still recommend you checking it out, I guess I wouldn't buy it without seeing it. Mileage varies.

Shin's approach is very different to other godzilla movies, the monster evolves and the majority of the human drama is different levels of government dealing with it. I found it interesting and I didn't hate it but I've had little desire to revisit it.

I can't remember if I saw ultraman x or not now. I'll have to look at the trailer.

That was the cheapest one too, ha.

Just picked up Yamato for $13 shipped.

                Looking for Ultraman X now...

                Thanks, guys!

Even though I haven't seen it yet I've been obsessed with Shin Godzilla ever since it first came out.

I think I've seen at least a million clips on youtube.

The face is definitely the scariest Godzilla EVER !!!

Also, his other incarnations are a little funny, but slightly disturbing at the same time --- The ground belly wiggle one especially ... The big non blinking eyes (though a bit funny) remind me of the description of Jaw's "doll eyes"

My only gripe, from what I read on reviews the characters are totally lifeless (from a writing AND acting standpoint)

One review said for human characterization Shin is the worst Godzilla movie ever (including the early 70's zingers)

That said, i'm still intrigued with the way Godzilla looks and can't get enough clips.

Shin Godzilla is certainly worth a look, but it probably isn't one I'd return to very often. The new "G" design is strange, even vaguely disturbing in parts.
Be prepared for a lot of dialogue and debate scenes as the film seeks to put its political satire aspect across, and its commentary on contemporary Japanese culture.
But the epic scenes of city destruction and military action against the big G are awesome, as expected.
                    PUNY HUMANS!

Yeah, it's visually striking. As an aside, Shin was very educational for my kid, she learned some Japanese and a lot about their culture.

Yeah, Godzilla expert August Ragnone in particular, really hated it with a passion. I don't share that opinion but it's that kind of a movie, where people are divided on it's quality.

I remember when I saw it, I got a lot of "What did YOU think of it?" loaded questions from people.

I liked it, but it wasn't great. I did find it interesting. I remember reading that while the original was a reaction to the nuclear bomb, this was made to demonstrate the corrupt and ineffective politics of modern Japan. Not sure if that's true, but having seen it, I tend to agree with that.

Shin is a very strange movie and I don't mean the G design.

I'm guessing it's the anime influence, because it doesn't even play like a normal J scifi/horror movie, let alone kaiju.

There's a name from the past.

Pali - you ever run into JD Lees?

August still gets around, I see him on Shout Factory DVDs from time to time and we're friends on facebook. He's a great resource into Japanese streaming movies, he's killed some productive days for me .

Don't know Lees other than reputation, I think he's in Manitoba and that's a long drive.
