Actually, I am a big time movie buff and Sci-Fi person. Just this movie and 2001 always bored me, so I never finished them. Admittedly, I have never sat down to actually watch them, just came in as they were started. I just need to make it a point to give them a go.Comment

Wait---so you've never seen either 2001 or CETK in their entirety?!? For shame, sir, for shame! Please turn in you sci-fi creds as you leave the room. LOL!!! Seriously, they are both massively entertaining and were, and are, highly influential in what has come since. You owe yourself a viewing of both.sigpic Oh then, what's this? I've seen this movie a couple of times and it's not my favourite. It's not a bad film by any stretch of the imagination, I just don't revere it the way others i know do.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I watched it with my dad way back in late 1977 at the Coronet theater in San Francisco (now sadly closed) after the Star Wars Summer run had passed...and I have nothing but great fond memories of Close Encounters of the Third Kind...every time I watch it, that moment immediately comes back, it's what makes nostalgia so great...our own personal time machine.sigpicComment

I watched in the sixth grade on a VCR, probably why I don't hold it dear.
Also, a terrible board game.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

This is important.
This means something.
I LOOOVE CE3K. So brilliant the way the musical score evolves and eventually becomes the film itself. From atonal music for the encounters and abduction, to the 5 tones integral to the storyline, to the lush, fully realized orchestral crescendo.
It's the perfect tonic for those who find Star Wars too fantastic or E.T. too saccharine. (I do not include myself in those groups, but for some...)Comment
