Ben Cooper '76 King Kong costume

On our flea market excursion yesterday, I found something cool to add to my 1976 King Kong collection, a Ben Cooper costume (my first). The outfit looks brand new, unused and features a rather charming, simpler rendition of the theatrical poster artwork. The box is pretty generic but still has some neat, very off model superhero artwork. I would have preferred Kong specific artwork or at least a window, because right now I'm not sure how to display this.

That's cool! I distinctly remember having that same mask as a kid... not sure what happened to the rest of the costume, or whether I somehow just picked up the mask by itself somewhere.

So, Kong had his own movie poster tattooed on his chest. Hardcore!

        Seriously, that is awesome.

Yeah, it took me a minute to figure out that the design around the picture is supposed to be Kong's chest hair, pretty bizarre!

My oldest brother used to sit beside our bed with that mask as we awoke from a sound sleep and scare us. Good memories. Still smile every time I see that Kong mask.

The mask looks like what would happen to Al Jolson if he had one too many shot glasses of Gamma Rays.

Don't think that would fly today

Wow! So you have the play suit and not the plastic costume! Sweet! It will display a lot better w/ less wrinkles. Nice grab!

Thanks Sharry. Yeah, at first I thought this was just a normal plastic Halloween costume (I'm not too knowledgeable on Ben Cooper stuff), so I was really surprised that it was made of fabric and was a whole suit with legs and everything. Now if I just had the extra wall space in my office I would be hanging up this bad boy.

I still have my Batman playsuit like this, minus the mask. How it survived from early childhood, I have no idea. Thanks Mom!
